Cool. My latest is that I plan to fit an eccentric at the reversing idler mount to allow for belt tension adjustments up topside. This should also allow you to use up some more belt if you are close with the Corvette belt and the larger pulleys. It appears to me that you can tie back the ignition wires and use some of that space to take up some belt length if need be. This should be pretty straightforward but there would be a setting of the eccentric that would cause belt rub on the supercharger mount so some care would be needed.

Cheers,
-Joel.

Default 6dpk1710

Hi,

My car is at the mechanics and has had the larger crank pulley, under drive alternator pulley installed. The 1710 long double sided belt is too long. Goodyear make a 7 rib 1560 long belt.

We will look this afternoon at possibly using a smaller upper idler pulley, or a bigger one to try and get the length back in range for a suitable pulley.

Another point of interest is that Gates will manufacture a belt to any length you want, just that there is a minimum quantity of around 50. The required length roughly would be about 1610mm.

I am using a 1565mm length belt, if Goodyear do a 1560 doubl sided 7-rib, it would be easy to cut a rib off to make a 6-rib and the length would fit.
I have fitted at the moment a 2.30" pulley, that has been sand blasted to rough the face up and so far gripping with no belt slip and working well. Now getting boost before 4000 and all the way to 6200

The 7 rib belt is a VW OE application for a European Phaeton V6. I have ordered one and Goodyear will shear one of the ribs off.

I will also get the supercharger internals and bearings upgraded.

VW OE application for a European Phaeton V6.
Thanks for that info.
Could you be a more specific on model, Year, Diesel, etc.
Many thanks in advance.
Tried a search but came up with to many variables.

Default 7 Rib Double Sided Belt

Hi,

The VW OE Part number is • VW : 022145933R

The dealer here had no trouble finding it - but it was not stocked in Australia - had to come from Singapore where they held 35 (now 34).

As per previous posts - you will have to remove one rib to make it a 6 rib belt.

Joel,
I'm also looking at fitting an eccentric idler pulley but need one that mounts flush as the Rotrex pulley is mere mm from the bracket. Any idea on a source for one of these?

Cheers for that.
What ribbed pulley are you using?

We will replace the top idler with a 70mm ribbed idler pulley. The drive pulley is a machined version of the pulley that coame with the kit to accept the ribbed belt.

One of the guys in Sweden has just emailed me that he has achieved 380hp and nearly 400Nm of torque - but still has belt slip with the knurled pulley - at around 8/9psi of boost. This is with the standard crank pulley. Given I have decompressed the engine - I might net out around the same point.

The eccentric pulley I have used for testing is a leftover from a timing belt job on my 40V Audi A8. I think the 30v V6 is the same. It has holes to adjust it with a pin wrench.

Sorta like this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-VOLKSWA...-/260838003009

I am not sure if it is safe as it is spinning much higher RPMs in this role. the crank sprocket on the timing belt is much smaller than the serpentine belt drive pulley. Once I worked out the system I was going to use a Dayco 6 rib pulley on a homemade eccentric, however I am now considering using something like this due to the larger bearing width and OD. The weight of the part concerns me a bit, it it came off under load it might do something surprising.

We use a stock crank pulley, a 53mm supercharger pulley with, for the moment, a single-sided belt
presure is lessn than 7.5 PSI
with your engine management (with stage II injectors but without FMU), on dyno test, result is over 372hp and 386 Nm torque !!

next evolution: double-sided phaeton belt and intercooler
ultimate goal is 400hp

Nice!
Looks like people are taking development to the next level.
Carl, is the system completely sorted out? I have been on the fence for a while, waiting for things to sort.
Thanks in advance.

I think the Stage I system is completely sorted out. Have many in the field with no issues.

When we tried to get more boost from it for the racers, we called it "Stage II" and we started to see belt slip. Since then, a larger crank pulley and a larger alternator pulley have been made to take up belt slack as we work toward a doundle-sided belt solution. When the 968 gets here in March, we will work out the bracketry for the finish of that and the new-and-improved Stage II kit will be done.

I already know this: that the Stage II kit will provide more boost than the stock 968 can fuel. It will be called an "advanced" kit, as some tuning/modification to the fuel system will be required. Most are going with the Electromotive system so they can have absolute tuning freedom over all ignition and fuel events. On the plus side - I expect very good dyno numbers from our new Stage II kit.

The Stage I system works within the limits of the stock fuel system, and requires no mods to the vehicles fuel system or computers.

That's a good result! Glad to hear it. Thanks for posting.
