Default Where is the cabin filter?

I was reading the owners manual and it has scheduled replacement for the cabin filter. I seriously doubt if mine has ever been changed. I also have noticed low airflow from the vents. Where the heck is said cabin filter???

Thanks in advance!

Look under the blk plastic cover that goes between the lower windshield and firewall. Its a big plastic piece that covers the entire center section. Pull it off from the sides and you will see the cabin filters. There is one on each side.

Can I remove these and benefit from unrestricted airflow into the cabin? Am I wrong to assume that I don't need these filters?

Thanks Raj.

Cabin filters are nice if you have allergies. They also help keep the ductwork clean. That's about it.

Thanks again.

NP Bill.
Stew, you wouldn't want your engine to injest dirty air, that is why you put in an air filter. Why not treat yourself to the same luxury? j/k

Good point!

Do the 944's have cabin filters?

What about the 92 968? My 968 don't have the cabin filters. And the 94 filters will not fit. I hope it's not a dealer only item.

The early cars did not have cabin filter. This was one of those 94 and later car deals. Most manufacturers around taht time went to cabin filter setup.

I took out the cabin filters. Clogged solid! I had less than half of the airflow I have now! I'm thinking that this is a Porsche only part. I'll post some part #'s and prices when I find out.

Thanks again Raj! I should have done this before summer!

I made some for an old 89 S2 I had by wiring some cut-to-fit furnace filter over the grilles. I was not after pollen filtration so much as keeping leaves and crap out of my ductwork. On the cabrios I have not made the effort (plus I no longer park outside.) I used a piece of electrostatic furnace filter.

Excellent price.
BTW, I have a newer style cabin filter housing if someone wants to retrofit this. I thought I had thrown it out but when I was checking thru some stuff for Steve, I saw that I still have the upper cover with the filter openings.

Ghetto fix of the day: Smack the cabin filter upside down against the floor to kick out most of the dust/dirt/debris, then shop vac it, then a few hits through the backside with compressed air, good as new! Well not really but it does make a difference.

On a more productive note, I've heard a light spraying of some kind of antibacterial stuff can help a lot, like Lysol or whatever.

Don't some people use K&N filter cleaner?

Arash, I tried. But mine were too far gone. But I plan on cleaning them regularly like that. Like every oil change.
