Model Year differences
Since this topic has come up often, it would make sense to start a thread to outline some of these differences.
I will start with some of the items that I am aware of. Please feel free to add to the list and I can then add it to the master list.
1992 and early cars:
Clutch type LSD
Thinner connecting rods
Coolant hardpipe
Bleed screw under vanity cover
Different intake manifold (vanity cover mounting points are different)
Clear top half of power steering reservoir
Additional metal pan underbody
R12 AC charge
Additional cover on door bolsters
Cup1 17 inch wheels
Engine covers in front and back
Front seats have a different pattern (old style)
Rear seats in coupe have a different pattern
Older style castor blocks
Painted intake manifold and valve cover
Recessed hood badge
Engine hook on alternator bracket
Rear Emblem is not tapered on edges
Rolled exhaust Tip
No Pollen filter for ventilation system
Wheel locks use a key
1994 and later cars:
Torsen LSD
Thicker rods
Coolant hose

Raj, You mention:
"Bleed screw under vanity cover,
Different intake manifold (vanity cover mounting points are different)"
My January 1992 968 had the normal bleed screw and the updated intake. Only the very early cars have these. Another "very early" difference was the larger, edged rear 968 emblem.
Also Raj, didn't you spot something on my car with a bracket for pulling the engine?

Good points guys.
Jeff you are correct, the engine hook to remove the engine on the earlier cars is on the alternator bracket, instead on the top bolt hole of the upper balance shaft housing.
Wonder if I should break it down in to very early cars and later 1992 cars.

Three Wheelin'
I have some pics of the changes from Jeff's car at Hershey, but rennlist is acting up and won't let me post pics...I'll try again later...
Here we go: Pic 1 is of the early bleed screw (or lack of), Pic 2 is the lift ring in a different spot, Pic 3 is lift ring in the rear, Pic 4 is of the strut mounts without the weights, and Pic 5 is how the AC is different.

Thanks Steve for sharing the pictures. We never got to doing this post after Hershey like we had planned on.
Jeff, the later evaporators don't have blk paint. Also the harness connector is different.

More trivia....in my model year 1994 supplement book there is an explanation of some of the changes. One I have not see mentioned here is that the M490 HiFi stereo option changed--the speakers are different from the early year cars (says the guy who knows cuz he bought the wrong ones once...)
I'll dig the book up and list the others later.

M490 was the 10 speaker option which was offered through the years. I am not 100% positive if it was offered only on later cars. Jeff might know that better.

What I meant was M490 was offered all years but the part number for the speakers changed in mid 94.
I have the part numbers for the coupe M490 rear speakers early vs late cars somewhere.
Jon
PS a concours judge marked me down this year for my late 94 coupe not having the underhood glove box thingie. I was explaining something to a different judge at the back of the car at the time so I missed the chance to correct him.
