I have the part numbers for the coupe M490 rear speakers early vs late cars somewhere.

Jon,
So you are saying they changed speaker suppliers for 94? I've had my door panels apart on my cab which has 490 (hi-fi speakers) and 494 (amp) and noticed that the speakers were made by Nokia. They sound good.

Okie Dokie, extreme trivia time. Here is some info from the Service Information Technik supplement for model year 1994, publication WKD 498 821.
"This brochure describes the modifications introduced on 968 vehicles for the 1994 model year."
The changes include:
- A new security wheel nut/special socket wrench.
- Pollen filters added
- "Vehicles without air conditioning (anyone have one of those???) are no longer equipped with a second electric cooling fan."
- "The electric cooling fans are no longer controlled by the Tiptronic control unit."
- New radio option is Alpine 7807.
- The book does seem to indicate that the M490 ten speaker option is new for 1994 but I do not think that is correct. Anyone have a 92/93 with M490? The rear speakers I bought that do NOT fit my 94 coupe are part number 944.645.425.00. I do not recall the correct number that did fit. The PET lists them both.
- (I love this bit of trivia) "The airbag contact unit is now mounted using M5 screws instead of self-atpping screws."
- "The turn signal cancelling lug has been strengthened."
- Electric windows no longer have the active after key removed feature. Windows only work with the key in position 1. I've heard this one discussed here before.

Do earlier years have a cabin filter?

Pollen filters? Where are they located?

If you look in the engine bay, right under windshield, you will see a big plastic cover. If you remove the cover, the ventilation unit is under it. Later cars had pollen filters.

I can't remember if it was fact or rumor that the early pistons were cast.
I have noticed my 93 (and a friend's 92) is painted black under the carpet, and my 95 is not.
The gong in my two cars is different.
The scripting on the early 968s is flush block lettering decal, the late ones (95? 94-95?) have Porsche font.

I have heard about window after key-out. Is there a timer on that?

In my late 94' the windows work after the key has been removed.

(edit)
I dont think there is a timer, but the power is killed to the windows once the door is opened then closed.

I have ROW 92, the windows work with ignition on Acc, as well as key out, but driver door open.

The 92-94.5s have seat belt nuts in the rear floors for an easy rear seat conversion.
