Question Damaged 968 - Advice needed ASAP please

Hi Guy's, me and Beni are looking to purchase the damaged 968 pictured below tomorrow and would like some advice if you would be so kind.

The car has sustained light front damage which is pictured below and we allready have all the parts in stock to repair.

The car has all of the Sport specifications fitted MO30, oem 17 inch wheels, LSD, 6-Speed, Sports seats in near perfect condiction.

The price we can get the car for is abou 7,500.00 swiss francs or in english money abut £3.5k so very cheap.

It has 70k miles on the clock.

After looking at the pictures can you tell me if there is anything we need to pay perticular attention to? Does the wheel look straight or do you think there could be suspension damage and what other things do we need to look out for?

Obviously as you can see the car has previously had a color change but we are not bothered about that as the car will be fully rebuild and painted and used as the base for a product development car.

Picture below:

Many thanks,
Mark

Doesn't look too bad, you don't see color changes on 968s to often since it really can't be done. I see the car was originally amathyst in color. If you can get the option codes from the vehicle information tag I can translate them for you. I see the sport seats are also heated. Is the car a 92 or 93?

Go to www.cannell.co.uk and down load the service manual if you do not have it.

Look on page 427, You may want to have a good look at those parts:
A) Wheel housing upper section
B) Wheel housing
C) Side member
D) Support Panel
E) Wheel housing front section
F) Support for pop-up headlight console
H) Cross member with end section

Hi mate the car is a late 1993.

As far as I can tell the car as all of the factory options and yes the seats are indeed heated.

We have not seen the car in person yet will will do so tomorrow.

Cheers,
Mark

There were many factory options. From what I can see i know the car does not have headlight washers or the 8 way seats. It doesn't really matter but the codes will tell you if the car has factory LSD or was a MO30 car.

I see some toe in. I get a feeling there might be a bent tie rod on passenger side. The damage seems minimal but until you start taking it apart, there is no way to know.
Its a safe bet at what you guys are looking to pay for it.

Take a close look at the drivetrain to, it appears to have been owned by someone might have been into riceing the car. The fuel rail cover in red isn't really rice, but it may have just been the start. The tailpipe is rather large and they put a RS badge on the back of it. It may have had a prior accident if it was repainted, it the driver crashed it this time there's a chance the driver crashed it once before.

I don't see any paint transfer on it, so I wonder what it hit. Perhaps this was damage sustained on the track? Aluminum guard rail or tire wall.

I agree Raj that there my infact be some tie rod damaged but if you look at the picture I think that the fact that the bumper (front PU) is hanging off make it look like the wheel is toed in, but either wich way this is not a big job.

I have a lot of experience buying salvage cars and have purchased over 20 in the last 12 years. Unfortunately I will not be able to view the car so I'm relying solely upon Beni who doesn't have quite my experience and as we all know a picture can hide a thousand horror stories but then again at this price I guess it's worth dipping our toe in.

Yes It looks like its been presviously owned by a ricer type and trust me the RS badge and tinted front indicators will be the first to go in the bin.

I do love the grey color but love Raj's whaite colour much better but my favorite color is the good old 964 RS blue so I guess I'll have to convince Beni on this one and that red engine cover also needs to be painted back to oem silver but the calipers we can live with.

So to this effect I'll let you all know how we get on tomorrow and if purchased then we can all look forward to some new product developments

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Smokiemon944 ... Yes I'm with you on that one but we have spare wings in stock so if that side is damaged then we have a solution but it could also be a simple case of a shadow - We hope

I must admit though that the front wheel in the picture you have highlighted does look a little recessed into the wheel arch

Cheers,
Mark

Should still be salvageable with a good frame machine.
If you down load the service manuals they have all of the reference dimensions listed for the frame.

It definately looks fixable, but like others have said you never really know until you check it out in person. Considering the price though I don't think you could go wrong, especially since you want to use it as a product development car.
