Default LSD option or M030 ? Which is a "Must"

I'm looking at 2 968's rite now, plan is to drive the car around town and maybe take to the twisties every once in a while..i'm looking to get a full true Transaxle porsche experience.

one has the LSD option no M030 and the other has m030 but no LSD..Assuming everything is exactly equal cosmetically & mechanically, same year same miles- which one would be the better car & the one which holds more value down the road?

Im not sure either is a must but the one that holds more value down the road is probably a real M030 car as they only brought about 99 of them to the country. Checkout the 968 registry site for more detailshttp://968register.org/optionalequipment/m030/ This will tell you what ALL of the M030 details are because its quite a bit more than a bigger set of sway bars.

I have seen a few in the last 6 months where the add said M030 but that was not the case, a previous owner had put the M030 bars on the car so the new owner listed as an M030. Additionally, many of the M030 cars went straight to track use and Ive seen a few of those for sale with much of their original equipment or interiors stripped or cut up.

Some have chosen to denigrate the M030 option from Porsche as being too harsh a ride etc...etc.... I think thats the biggest load of crap Ive ever read but hey everyone gets their opinion... this is the internet.

Other than being painted Speed Yellow, I think its the most valuable commodity on a 968. Im clearly biased as I have one. Have been speaking to a local guy about selling mine to him, if that does not work out I may be putting my M030 with LSD and sport seats up for sale on this forum. Do you think Jeff would trade me for that sweeeeet cab?

I totally agree with jsheiry and the numbers tell the story:

M030 99 out of 2,234
220 LSD - 584 out of 2,234

Both are desirable but the M030 can bring at least 50% more value compared to a regular 968.

Make sure and confirm that the M030 equipment is still there. Post the last 3 of the VIN and I can give you more details.

Good luck

FYI, the cab sold Saturday

For resale, a true M030 car.

For driving, I would personally say LSD if it still works.

Do drive an M030 car though. The one I drove and rode in multiple times that was my friends was the harshest riding car I have ever been in. Suspension could have been worn out, but I do know the same thing is stated by others. I believe even the old school Top Gear 968 review with Jeremy Clarkson from 1992 had an M030 car and he complained about how harsh it was.

Remember, M030 is only available in Coupes, and LSD was available in Cabs.

Did they really make an M030 car without an LSD? I find that surprising. Are you sure it doesn't have one in there?

Guys i think the owner added the M030 components to the car, i'll confirm shortly. The car had timing belt, waterpump done at 85k now has 120k, owner says it doesn't need immediately but i'm budgeting for those as well

I had my M030 suspension rebuilt two years and can say that it really is not that harsh of a ride. It's not as compliant as the standard suspension, but it's really not that far off - with the bonus of tighter handling.

Tarek I think people here are hesitant to answer this question as the results may vary based on who is doing the leak down and their tools. Lots of variables, my sense is that if your PPI mechanic did the test than ask him what he/she thinks as you have paid for some interpretation of the car and results.

If the seller gave you those numbers... then get your own numbers. (unless of course this was documented info from a previous unbiased PPI someone else did on the car, then call the shop and ask to pay them for a half hour of interpretation on the documented PPI and what they think of the deviation on leak down)

Rather than type an opinion for someone to follow and state how they once saw one that was vastly different, and for that reason I could be wrong, please just read here with special attention paid to the "Results" paragraph.

http://www.hotrod.com/articles/cylin...akdown-tester/

What year is this 968, and is the LSD original or been added?

The car in my avatar is an 030 clone with every suspension part either NOS or excellent condition used components. As Adam stated, it is stiff, but not unbearable IMHO.

Quick Reply: LSD option or M030 ? Which is a "Must"
