Default Thoughts on 1994 968 Black/Red

Posted this in the other watercooled forum but member suggested i post here.

Hey guys, i'm a 911 guy, lately been really loving the 928 & 968, i have never driven either car..928 is out of my budget (i only desire the later model GTS or S) ..however i found a 1994 968 Manual of course that seems look clean and has service records black on red interior in great shape 101k miles, timing belt, alternator, tensioners says all have been done in last 20/30k miles.

Only hiccup is carfax says True Mileage unknown however i believe this is a mistake as miles are all trackable through records and even on carfax itself (owner says cluster went out once so when went to register couldn't put in miles and since car was older than 10 years old they just left blank) otherwise history is good, aside from having 6 owners before.

-Are these cars fun to drive? i'm buying this car from antother state and wont' get to drive it first.

-how reliable are these cars if they have been well maintained and what should i watch out for?

-What kind of value would you put on this car? owner asking $13,000/$14000 i'm buying this car for myself , but will eventually end up selling it, don't care to make a profit but would like to at least feel that i'm good and would break even after driving for few months.

Of course i know i should get a ppi & know i should use the search function.

They are fantastic cars. I also considered a 928 back in the day but found them too large. the 968 is more nimble and fun to drive, IMHO. They are the final evolution of the front engine cars so they are very reliable. Of course, all cars need attention and maintenance. The big item with the 968 is making sure the timing belt is done.

Not sure about a red interior? It could be flamenco which is very rare.

Price seems right for a sorted 968 coupe.

Good luck.

its a dark red interior, doesn't look "too red" so price ok even with the carfax saying TMU? Thanks for the info

that interior is someone's custom job. Take a close look to make sure it was done well. It is your personal taste on whether you like it or not but keep in mind it is not a factory job. Car doesn't look bad. Price is about right if it is sorted and ready to go.

That is the Supercharged car that has been for sale off and on over and over for the past ten years. It's had at least 3 or 4 owners during that time and it seems like the same car shows up every two years or so.

The "love it or hate it" custom red interior with silver speaker grilles gives it away. Price has been anywhere from 12k to 20k depending on seller. When it was 20k a dealer had it.

Not factory. A few people have come up with after market kits and it sounds like this car had/has one.

Yeah this car has/had one of "Flash"'s or "Design1Racing"'s S/C kits I believe.

I had a friend almost buy it when it was for sale in Utah.

Sure does seem like it goes from dealer to dealer or private party to private party an awful lot. The fact that no one seems to keep the car long is a red flag to me. That plus the fact that I am not a fan of the interior personally, but for instance, my friend loved the interior in pictures. Might even look better in person.

Sorry to go off topic but what do you think of a real, factory red 968 interior? Here is matador red, 1 of 2 produced. Kinda tired but you get the idea, headliner is black too.

Sending Jeff a PM not to hijack the thread.

Also, the "records" seem like another red flag. Why would the engine need completely rebuilt twice in a few years and 20k miles?

One last thing: The rule of thumb for these cars and their timing belts and related items is to go buy years OR miles. Some say every 3 years, others say every 4 or 5. Even if the car low miles since the timing belt has been changed, the amount of time since replacement should be a factor.

So Aero what would you say this car is worth in your opinion assuming it passes a PPI? does the super charger add value? sometimes cars with a shody history like this are actually an opportunity and of course more times could be a nightmare, all depends so i'm doing my due dillegence

Everyone has their own opinion but I would say the supercharger hurts the value. But that is just me. I like the cars stock.
