Hey, has anyone even heard of a single 964 Turbo attending the Werks reunion down in Amelia Island this year? (I've seen a lot of pictures, but do not spy a single one. hmmmm).
thanks i was going to paint it in white but decide to go with something more subtle.

I unfortunately wasn't there this year. A friend was at Amelia selling some cars at auction and he said he saw one at the coral. Didn't have any specifics for me though.

I wonder how the forums would look today if they followed through with the 965 project. I am not sure why they didn't scrap the 965 prefix when they scrapped the project. I can only assume it had money attached to the decision. Instead 965 is used for every part specific to the 964 turbo. I am assuming that is why all the cup I wheels also carry a 965 prefix. The 91-92 turbos were the first to see them then came the 928, 968 and 964. Even the vin sticker has a 965 specific part number. I don't understand the reasoning but they could have used 966 or something else but chose to reuse 965 for the turbo.

Not yet. As long as it's out, it's getting cracked open to ensure it's all 100%. So far all the syncros and gears are perfect. He's looking into the lsd to make sure it'll last. Might need to rebuild/replace it.

My LSD was just rebuilt with new spec parts from P, and it works incredibly well now. (38K mile car). The LSD started to cause a shudder which felt almost like a tap on and off the throttle during easy right turns, which is what spurred the rebuild. Quiet now, no notches or creaks or clunks when turning, power goes down so well through the turns. Might want to just refresh it since it's sitting on the bench.

Check the CVs as well, my inners were worn out, outers just fine.

Interesting as there is a TSB regarding these. They all made a lot of noise because of the 100% lockup on deceleration which makes for a flat 90 degree ramp on one side and a 20 degree angle ramp on the other. It was my understanding there is no way to quiet these down unless you use a friction inhibitor which defeats part of the purpose of the LSD and as the factory said just live with it or add the additive. If they didn't make noise they weren't working. I am assuming the shop added the inhibitor to make it quiet? IIRC placing a torque wrench on the flange or axle of one side it should break at 26 ft pounds if not obtained the plates were worn is the only true way to tell if they are working. Although that might be for the 40/40 and not the 20/100. One is 26ft ponds I believe the other is 32 but I will check.

Too technical a job for me so Bill Manuel (the best P car tech on the west coast IMHO) did it, he didn't mention adding inhibitor...here are the details, part numbers used etc. He said he spoke with someone at P HQ regarding these diffs before doing the job...note the tech notes section at the end...carbon fiber, etc...

So they used the oil with the additive which is what is keeping it from making any noise. I don't see any special carbon fiber discs listed. The parts appear to be standard LSD discs noted, I just did this on my C2. I can't say for sure if your was working or not but with the noise it usually means it was. I suspect as with mine the noise will come back. I am thinking your CV Joint might have been the bigger issue. Although these are only good for about 60k street driving and about 20k track. A very simple two disc system vs the later units used on the 993 on up which were a better design.

This is the important disc that wears out.

This is the C2 40/40 LSD vs the turbo's 20/100. The 20 100 has a similar V but the one side would have a 20 degree angle cut into it and the other side a 90 degree flat face.

Interesting...the four discs of carbon fiber mentioned in the bottom paragraph...starting with part number 950
