One guy said the only 965's he's been seeing lately have been on BaT, and that the bidding pushes him right out (I have no idea if that meant primarily 3.6's or what, but he did specifically say he wanted a lower priced 3.3). I have not paid attention to those for sale out there. How many are on the market now? ... driver quality 3.3's for reasonable prices???

To your comment about them being the "wrong people looking",.... I guess you are proving the point,... meaning that those people who want a nice driver quality 3.3 for a decent price, and just NOT willing to pay $130k or more,.. so that makes them the wrong buyer. Ok, I guess I can get on board with that. But I kinda see it on the flip side - They are the right people,... just not willing to pay the wrong price (if I put myself in their shoes).

Oh well,.... sorry I am not posting pics in this thread (don't have any new ones),... but if not here, I guess this conversation would be in the "Market" thread for 965's.
Steve my head is spinning LOL. I help a lot of people locate these. You buy the car or you buy the price. As they say cheap is not good and good is not cheap.

I see people spending more on RSA's without a problem and complain if it is a turbo which to me makes no sense. RS's bringing $400k. What do yo mean there are other marques LOL

I guess tomorrow never knows as they say and what the wrong price is could be debated, When I purchased mine people said I overpaid and it was the wrong price. Today I see it was the right price. Now if I just purchased a few more.

On the flip side I went for another ride today, Twice in one week Oh my. The car really opened up today it has sat for too long and needed a good flogging. We had just done a full exhaust and cobb tune with X73 suspension package Saturday on my sons 981 CS. The thing is a little rocket. Probably as fast as a bone stock 3.3LT. We had a little open road and he was butt hurt but respects the vintage hardware.

Seems like a lot of potential buyers are in denial about the value of a 965 3.3. There's what they are willing to pay and where the market's at.
The few cars in the $130K + price range are things like 991 Turbos and GT3s, late model Aston Martin Vantages, Ferrari F430's, Lamborghini Gallardos, stuff like that. Every car I just listed here will do nothing but lose you money. I've driven most of these cars on the list and I would recommend them if you love attention and don't care much about the driving experience.
Last week I drove an '18 GT3 and my car back to back and I prefer a vintage Turbo to any newer car Porsche has produced. A Turbo with 2 wheel drive and no nanny software tests your skill and forces you to pay attention. It's an acquired taste but it suits me.

I agree Paul. And I would also add that being "in denial" about the value, comes from within the eye (& purse) of the buyers. To me, it seems unfortunate that the 965 Market seems now driven by the collectors (& exotic-reselling speculators), and yet the "driver" kind of buyer just wants to pay yesterdays price for a car they can enjoy out on the open road. The folks I met on Saturday were those kind of people. If I had to guess they were 40-something guys, who were old enough to have those posters on their wall, and have now finally reached some "purchasing-power", yet do not want to pay collector prices for a car they want to put miles on. One guy said he would love to buy a 965 (that did not need a ton of work) for around the $100k mark. .... but if they have to bump that up by $20-$30k, then they will look at newer. For me, paying $120k for 997.2 2010 10k mile Aqua Blue GT3 with a MSRP of $142k, was a bargain for a driving experience that rivals the 965. Very different, but VERY visceral, raw, and with the ability to turnoff nannies.

That's the state we are in right now. Those of us who own 965's, {as Anthony said}, bought-in at a VERY reasonable price many many years (if not decades) ago, and thus we CAN drive & put miles on without guilt or reservation. But those who want to buy now, end up looking elsewhere. And those of us who own, do not want to sell,.... so the "market" is supply dry. Cobalt predicted that many many years ago.

Exactly. I'm sooo lucky I bought when I did. I could not/would not pay today's market price for what I want to do (and actually do) with my car - drive the crap out of it. That said if I was making $1MM a year I would. lol. All relative.

Out of curiosity what is the market value range for a low/mid mileage 3.6 turbo in good condition?

I have seen them sell between $275k and $330k for what I would consider a sub 40k mile in very good condition. If you go down in miles and up in condition they go up from there but not many selling at those prices I am aware of. I have heard of asking prices as much as $400k but real collector quality at that price. Decent drivers with more miles go down from there but what you are getting is a crap shoot. There are two types of 3.6T's those that are in pristine condition and those with many needs not much in between.

FYI I have been helping people source nice 3.6T's for years and the interested died off a few years ago but seems to be stronger than ever lately. There is such little product on the market and many people looking for that right car.

Thanks for the response. Those are strong values, and not entirely surprising considering the volume/production. Off market is the best way to find cars like this so its good there is someone like you out there making those connections.
