I’m 500 miles south of 60k...wondering if crossing it will impact value?

Always happy to trade up to a turbo from my C2 coupe if it would take all this stress off of your shoulders!

bought mine in 2011. 50 tousand miles, speedlines (originals from turbo s ), sport seats, some records. things to sort, payed 29 thousand $. polarsilver over black.

so price is 12 times as high now? no, it is only paper with dropping value i fear!

That is why these are getting so much attention these days but for me when mine hit a value of $300k+ it has taken a lot of the fun out of driving it as I used to.

I think the C2/C4 market will be next to explode because the Turbo/RS market has become galactic. Good and bad, I guess.

I have a hard enough time as it is, with my measly C2 leaving her alone in the parking lot.

So, I watch BaT pretty closely, both for the entertainment and the camaraderie. I've bought two cars on BaT and found the experience to be strait forward and quite satisfactory. Out of dumb luck, I happen to own a few cars that have become the darlings of BaT (Ford GT, 993TT, 964 Turbo, 930).

My question: what explains the astronomical price just paid for that black 3.3? I typically reject conspiracy theories (like shill bidding and market manipulation). I'm just wondering whether this was a case of two bidders going scorched earth against each other, or if this is writing on the wall for the trajectory of the air-cooled turbo market.

I'd love to hear your perspectives.

Supply + demand + marketing + popular culture + aftermarket parts providers + influencers + fear of missing out/prices going even higher = astronomical prices.

Imagine a stock trading on the market: "There are only 10,000 shares! Its the most amazing investment right now! Owning a share gets you.....! The prices just keep going up! <insert influential name here> said that now is the time to invest or you will miss out on the incredible opportunity. The company announced 100x's earnings! Amazing video here.....emotional commercial there.....boom this...boom that...." on and on.....and the stock price goes bananas.

Inside baseball the buyer can afford it and wanted it, period. He's a car guy, will be in his personal collection. The second bidder I have heard nothing about. Might be an anomaly but there are others on the way to BAT that will tell us that story. I watch BAT daily and there are examples of cars hitting their stride and continuing like all early 911's, SC's, NA 964's, 240z, Toyota Celica's(OMG)? Time will tell but the one thing is common during all of these was the Fed kept printing lots of money and interest rates were low. Now they say they will stop but they have said this before......

In the beginning of BaT I saw nearly every 964 that was sold in person and they were all misrepresented and junk. Most every car I see is not 100% as advertised. I know the 3.3T that sold and will keep what I know to myself but it is far from perfect. The market has gone ballistic with average 3.6 C2's selling for $150k and C4's selling for $135k. Prices just keep building and there seems to be no end. Everyone wants a 964 and they are the lowest production Air-cooled and most have been destroyed over the years so when you think there are thousands of people out there searching through the hundreds of 964's remaining. I was offered $600k for mine this summer and I passed. I promised my wife when it hits $1M I will sell but I don't think I will see that but who knows.

I feel sorry for Mike. IMO they screwed him. He was promised so much and they failed to deliver. That was shameful how little effort was put into selling it. I received nearly 100 emails from Mecum promoting one muscle car after another and not one was about the BB car. Every Porsche was poorly presented and given 0 Time. Porsche venues would have seen closer to $2M IMO. A crappy restomod got more tv time and attention than the BB car.

Still strong $$ for a 3.6T but not for the BB car.

I agree with you Tony, Barrett Jackson did a great job with Risky Business 928, IMO, Mecum did nowhere the same job for BB 965. Mecum would not be my choice to sell a Porsche. either way, it's done and it's good money. I don't know what mike had in the car, but I'm sure he made out.
