Stones and debris removed.
Worst place on an early 964 for debris accumulation. This area will be full when the road trip concludes.
Clean for now.
A few stones to clear around the cat delete.

A friend donated a Rennline phone mount to me
The hex nut is a weird size, I think 3.5mm. A T20 torx fitted well enough to tighten the ring.
. I’m not sure its hold is robust enough for a road trip.

I've been running the Rennline phone mount for a couple of months now and it's done reasonably well on a couple of road trips. It takes a bit of trial and error to get it at the right position relative to the steering wheel to minimise the chance of knocking it with your left hand in the turns.
Your car is looking great. I'm in the middle of a similar overhaul, mostly cosmetic and interior fittings as I did the big mechanical refresh in 2018. Touch wood these cars are remarkably reliable for their age and the performance they are still able to produce.

I got tired of accidentally knocking the phone off when shifting with the rennline unit- so I moved it to the door side ( left in my case,) Now I just need to be careful to remove it before exiting the car. Also I replaced the magnetic head with a unit from esr so it charges via the magnetic base so I no longer need to fuss with the cord.

One nights sleep before my road trip. I will be away for 18 days, covering at least 3,100km (close to 2,000 miles).
I have new Michelin PS2 N rated tyres (tires), new Wipertech wipers, and have checked all of the obvious fluids, hoses and bolts. I’m as ready as I will ever be.
I will be on my own for the first 800km, where I will meet up with Spokes in his ‘89 C4, along with two of his friends, one in a 3.8 964 and the other in a long hood. They will have travelled about the same distance to get to the meeting point. Maybe Rotorheadcase will be able to meet us in his 964.
I know this is a no-brainer trip in a modern car but it’s special to me in a car I have laboured over, and know so well behind the wheel.

Day 1, 337km. First I had to run the rush hour gauntlet out of Auckland.
Once on the motorway, it was a relatively easy cruise until I could hit the B roads at about half way through the trip.
They say that a battle plan doesn’t survive first contact. I think I had some wins but there were definitely some items to fine tune.
1. The Rennline mount didn’t survive first contact. It’s in the way on the gear level side and also on the opposite side. What’s the secret setup with these?
2. The new Michelin PS2 N rated tyres seemed to have nowhere near the traction of the PS4S tyres. I had them at 36 psi cold, front and rear, which ended up close to 39psi hot. I have reset them to 34psi front and 36 psi rear, when hot. I love to lean on my tyres in corners but I need the confidence these will hold their line. Tomorrow is another day.
3. I have to learn how to use the Scenic nav app and my GoPro, while on the move.
Otherwise a great day.
Rush hour traffic with a manual transmission.
Motorway is a lot easier.
The 964 is dwarfed by a Micra
Nature stop.
Tyres checked and pressures changed for tomorrow

Looks like fun. I was wondering why you went with the PS2? When hey first came out they were amazing but by todays standard they are not great. The MPS4s as you noted is a superior tire. My last set of PS2's were on my 928 and i switched to the conti DWS06 and IMO as an all season tire it outperforms the PS2 in every respect.
Have fun, quite the experience.
Car looks great.
