Yes, definitely put heat shrink tubing on the wires that connect to the coils. I just did and I could tell upon install, not paying attention how easy it is for the two crimps to touch.

Here is my solution. Make sure you confirm everything will fit. In the first two photos below my hole in the 993 coil pack is in the wrong place. It would not fit. I had to drill another hole lower and to the left (raise up coil pack and move it to the right).

Everything is in there now. I bought a spacer and new longer bolt to get it to work from McMaster Carr. That and your drill, hacksaw, is all you need. I did prime and repaint black the exposed metal.

Aluminum Unthreaded Spacer: 13 mm OD, 14 mm Long, for M6 Screw Size
M6 x 1 mm Thread, 65 mm Long

I only drilled a hole in the middle of the original clamp, no cutting needed. More space is more cooling. I also used two bolts per connections to prevent the cables to come loose and lock tide.

Install looks good. On the 993 they use a protective cap over the wiring. I am not sure if it is as necessary with how you have these located but might be worth a consideration despite the price.

I have them installed later on, but they don't give protection for keeping the cables separated.

Cheers

I’ll post my f up on this thread for thoughts. Doing this mod and mis drilled for the bracket. The first one got into the coil a bit. Re drilled but now I wondering if I have created a dangerous situation. Think the coil is junk now? I am highly annoyed with myself right now😤

Whew. I thought perhaps I was creating a short between the plates.

Progress. Waiting on the coil covers and coil to distributor wires. I fabricated a bracket so the coil was secured by both mounting bolt instead of just one.

coils really improved that starting especially hot starting. The solid state DME relay is in too. After 100 miles or so, no loss of power so one of those two fixed the issue I think! Anyway, the 993 coil upgrade is a good one and like others I recommend.

Yep, after my upgrade to 993 coils my 964 felt crispier.
It's a well known issue that a bad dme relay can result in power loss above 4000rpm.
If I'm correct it's also mentioned in the Adrian Streather 964 'bible'

Did this over the summer and figured I’d contribute to the thread. Pics of custom bracket and igniter mounts.

I have an extra set of brand new OEM rubber 993 coil covers. $50 for the set. That's about $10 each or so discount. I accidentally ordered two sets.
