Default Please ALL read - VERY IMPORTANT

I am sure everyone here will be surprised, no SHOCKED, to hear that the number of contributions to Adrian's 'Natalie Streather Memorial Trust' from Rennlisters totals....

TWELVE!

Please read what I wrote below in response to this news...

........................................................................ ..............................................

Adrian,

That's not 'somewhat disappointing' it's TERRIBLE, a DISGRACE!

And I speak as someone who hasn't donated.

I suspect a lot of people are like me - keep thinking 'I hope lots of people contribute to this', and even, 'I should really do something about contributing', but we just SIT HERE!

Sometimes, to my shame, I even think 'I bet a lot of people have donated to this'.

Come on, people!!

I'm going to look right now at how I can make a donation and I suggest everyone who reads this SHOULD DO THE SAME! And then, MAKE A DONATION!

12 Rennlisters???!!!! - shame on us all!

The 964 board is the best-natured board, with the nicest people on here - let's do something about this!

I suspect this thread might become quite long, as people come on board but IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE DO IT - YOUR contribution is still VITAL!!

To anyone who doesn't know what this is all about - visit Adrian's website at This Link.

I've done it too.

If you don't have a PayPal account, it's very easy (5 - 10 minutes) to create one - just click on the link in Rob's post, above.

Well, I am not that surprised.

1. I am all for the war on drugs but I don't see how providing funds to an art student will help reduce the drug problem. If I wanted to contribute to reducing this problem I would contribute to one of the well-established drug related charities already out there. I doubt many people are interested in contributing to art student grants.
2. If I was in the UK, I would not necessarily want this funds from this UK charity to support a student grant in the USA.
3. I suspect that the restrictions on how the grant is to be used and managed are unworkable. I doubt that any college will want to administer to these rules. In addition, I doubt prospective art students will be able to work as per the rules while they search for a college/course.
4. I do not like to fund the operating costs of charities - to which this drive is aimed at. Especially the actual set-up of a charity (and in this case just a UK one)
5. I don't see how this charity relates to 964 owners.
6. We all have a choice in where we place our money and as a browser of a Porsche forum I am not that pleased to see a moderator's non Porsche related project pushed at the members of the forum.
7. I don't see that this charity is being marketed that well, or has been thought out that well and thus doubt it will be successful in raising enough funds to get it off the ground and thus acutally make any grants.

So, that is why I would not be surprised. My personal opinions, openly and honestly posted and some of the reasons why I will not be contributing.

Django, that was quite a first post to this forum.

If you decide not to make a contribution to Adrian's cause, its your choice and hardly in need of a detailed explanation. People that will contribute will have their own personal reasons for doing so, which for many of us, may be something as simple as the ultimate respect we have for Adrian and all that he has done to make Rennlist the special place that it is. Once you have been around for a while, perhaps you will grow to appreciate that Rennlist is not a chat room, but a place where people from around the world share a passion and each others experiences. Adrian is not asking strangers to make donations. He is asking friends.

Thanks Syd B.....there are many, I am sure, who share your sentiments. A little bit of help goes a long way. I'm more than happy to contribute to someone who gives so much to all of us.

John,

Thanks for the wake-up, I have added my contribution to a very thoughtful cause.

DJ,

One can always find many reasons why not to do something, it only takes one reason to do something. Sometimes it is just the right thing to do.

Thanks,
Brad

I think 'Django' may be a new log-on for an existing user/member. At least he/she has looked thoroughly at the issue.

Personally, I haven't looked in any great detail into the whole situation because my reasons for donating (and the surprise that so few here had) are as put by Syd.

Having said that, Adrian might wish to comment on the points raised...

Isn't this a bit like not contributing to a charity help people in, say, Ethiopia? I really can't see what difference it makes where the person being helped is.

Now, where's that Paypal link?

Cheers

Phil, how about a tiny piece in 911&PW - in the 'Briefs', maybe?

Oh oh - tone-lowering warning!
