Default Nurburgring Trip

Hi Guys
Whilst I've read with interest the Spa trip over the last year or two, which I'm determined to go to one year!!
Does or has anyone go to the Ring during the year, would love to hear their experiences, high & lows whilst driving a 964 round there!
I manage to go once a year but would love to get there more often or at least combine Spa with on e of the visits, just not enough holidays
And whilst Porsches are the choice of weapon they're all new stuff and there is less and less 964's out there which means I've never been out in another!!
Here's a few photos off last year some you'll find amusing!
If they work!!

your car looks great, what I like about it is that all the details have a performance purpose and not for show....and you doing it yourself... Bravo !!

Cheers Chris much appreciated
Yeh I know Rob the only consulation was the previous week the tow truck Driver said he'd had one of the Ferraris on the back of that truck at the GP! and he said that Porsches were better!!
On one of the few laps I ever time I was going into Pflanzgarten2 caught a car a bit quicker than I thought which caused me to brake at a point where the car gets airborne for a moment landed down on the N/S/F hard and tore the front caliper off!!
I managed to limp to the last corner as you can see but no further so had to be recovered! End of the weekend!!

In answer to your question Simon, I've been there once and did a few laps albeit driving my brother's 997. For me there are just too many lunatics on TF days and too many crashes. We were there all day and managed three laps because it kept closing to pick up the crashes. I believe the consequences of a crash could be very, very expensive especially if I cause someone else to crash. I'm glad I've ticked the box but will never go back again because of the risk.

Yes it was a bit naughty almighty crack then a thudding noise followed by no brakes!! Luckily I never hit the car in front so no real damage
Boxsey
I know what you mean my first visit was extremely daunting and if I could have been transported home on the Saturday evening I'd have gone. But it takes a few years/trips to learn the track and once you've mastered that you can take in what's going on around you and it becomes a lot less risky. Once you've mastered it it's so rewarding to drive. That's why I can't stop going back

Describe the failure. Was it the caliper that broke, the fasteners that sheared, or the upright that broke?

The actual failure was of the lower hole on the upright which are the RS versions, it cracked the bottom half of the casting off which in turn pulled the threads on the top hole hey presto caliper free to Rome around the wheel!!
As I said earlier its an area you would never brake but it was that or hit the back of a car so I chose the path of least resistance!

Hi Vandit
I was on Michelin Pilot Cups at the time since replacing the damaged upright I now have longer caliper bolts that go right through the upright with nuts on the underside but I'm sure it was the situation that caused the failure unfortunately

I did have some yes but I can't find them thought they were on my phone but must be on my passengers phone?!
Other than damaging a bit of paint/scuffing the caliper has been reused but I had to buy a new wheel as the original was buckled and had a hairline crack in it so all in all it ended up an expensive little mishap!
