Default did i damage / kill my clutch slave cylinder

after reinstalling my motor i proceeded to install my clutch slave and accidentally pumped it a couple of times... would that kill the slave? $125 for new one... oops.

is there a rebuild kit? or seal replacement therapy?

Is it not working or something? Why do you think you killed it?

If you pressed the clutch w/o the slave installed and it puked out its guts, then you might have killed it.

vandit,

i pushed the shaft out... pretty far. and had to back off bleeder to get the shaft back in and into the position.

now when i try to pump the pedal, it just drops to the bottom.

i don't have motive bleeder and have, in the past, pumped up the clutch like you would pump the brakes to bleed the system.

it did not puke out any guts but then again i haven't looked as it's all under the rubber boot.

You have air in the system! The motive power bleeder is worth its weight in gold...

Was there brake fluid coming out from behind the dust boot? (the piston makes a loud pop sound when it comes out) If not, then its still working. And if there was;

Pull the lock washer, then the rubber dust boot and take a look. There are more than a few 964/993 owners that have launched the piston across their garage floor. The whole thing is easily put back together.

+1 on the Motiv.

I am super leery about pumping master cylinders (brake or clutch) for a number of reasons. If you're going to have a 964 the Motiv is well worth the cost.

Alex - You are not the only one who's done this. I did it once too. I felt very dumb afterwards. I replaced mine with a new one just to be safe. Good luck on the repair.

i borrowed a motive bleeder from a local rennlister and bled the slave...

after finding a hissing sound and brake fluid pouring out of the overflow (?) near the front of the driver's side door, clamped it with vice grips and pumped up to 10 lbs

opened the slave nipple and the fluid started to come out slow and steady...

i buttoned everything up, removed the motive, and tried the clutch pedal and still drops to the floor...

would this mean... i need a new slave or could it be the master - which was working fine in june when i started the complete rebuild of the motor...

time for new slave and hose?

or could there still be air in the line? it is kind of hard to tell how much fluid has come thru because i dumped about 1/4 - 1/2 litre on my garage floor...

i'll pick up an other bottle tomorrow and bleed until my super blue turns clear....

sound like a plan?

when does the clutch get stiff?

I think you're still having trouble bleeding the system. Make sure the reservoir is filled to the tippy top before you start. The clutch circuit pickup is very high compared to the brake circuit.

thanks vandit... i hope you are correct. i ran out of fluid bc it all came out the over flow. is there a correct way to cap this?

i think i need to bleed until all the blue is out.. then does the master automatically fills?

is there any tricks?

I use a vise grip plier to clamp the softline portion.

Illustrated on Babalouie's RHD car.

Read through here too.

Note how much he had to bleed before he got a pedal.

Your fine. If it failed not the end of the world to replace it. Keep moving and find out. What's the worst that can happen? Either way you are bleeding or replacing. Same deal really. Good luck.
