Default gear oil , one more time !

hi guys ,

I know most of you use Mobile Delvac, quite difficult to find in France,
I have been suggested this ,
it's for a C4

MOBILUBE 1 SHC 75W-90
http://xom.ee/files/62_glxxencvlmomo...shc_75w-90.pdf

anyone had experience with this oil...

w/o reading through all the referenced threads and in case it's not in there
SHC was the original name for Delvac, I thought the name change was worldwide but perhaps not, this is great oil for race trans but may not be best for a street trans.

I've used SHC in a different car and its was a little too slipery for the synchros when cold.

The synchros on the g64 can be a bit slow so instead I went with motul 300v gear oil when i change the gear oil in the c4 which has been fine just a little baulky when dead cold. Next time I'll go with something a bit less modern, a mid level semi synthetic would probably more in line with the gearbox design and age.

As I understand it SHC is as close to devlac as you can get in europe. Very high spec stuff and would be fine, just maybe not 100% suited to the application for street use as Bill says.

I have been running Amsoil SVG 75w110 in the 964 cup...It has never shifted better...I realize that is no indication of gearbox protection but it sure does feel good. I will do a UOA at the end of this season and start comparing trends after a few more years of use with this gear oil.

Sure, but Motul Gear 300 LS 75W90 is just as excellent.
Have been using them for years for engine and geaxbox oil

thanks,
just checked the price, not the cheapest @ 20 € a litre, the SHC is 12 €
but mind you it's not changed often...
apparently as good as a 75W140...!?

On fitting an LSD I used Castrol Syntrax 75w 140 as recommended by my Indy. It is night and day better than before. Well recommended if you can get your hands on it.

it might feel good, but what if gear protection is poor?

your gearbox might shift well with olive oil also.

As it is Castol Oil's top grade gear lubricant I think things will be just fine
By all means try olive oil but I suggest you make it extra virgin. Let us know how you get on

you need a synthetic 75w 90. With LSD additive if you have LSD. Mobil 1 is fine. I'm sure Motul has one too.
