What is the best oil to use for a C4?

Just wanted you to see how much has already been devoted to this question on other threads. Only thing I've found to be more contentious here is oil type and car color.

Others might tell you "do a search first before you post", but I'm not that rude.

If you check the link on the third post in, http://www.lufteknic.com/Merchant2/m...ode=lubricants
you'll find not only what seems to be most highly recommended product, but one of the few places to buy it.

I have it in my '89 and it brought smooth shifting back after a brief bout with another product.

Good luck.

Sorry, that link was corrupted when I pasted it in. Just click on the original full link the third post = Mobilube SHC (formerly Delvac) 75w-90, available from Lufteknic.

So you used Synthetic oil? From that article everyone was praising Dino oil, Without mentioning what they used. Any input would help.

I used the Delvac (or renamed - cannot remember) in my C4. Seems to work okay for me.

I tried Royal Purple's trans oil and have had good results. I really don't know if it's better or worse than the next brand. I've used it for about a year now and have had good luck with it during the winter, where I experienced issues in the past. Overall I'm satisfied with it.

Bought a gallon of Redline MT-90, should be getting ready to change it very soon.

I generally use Redline oils, so when I wanted a manual tranny oil for my 964, I didn't think twice.

I've just changed the fluid in my turbo and the consensus was Mobil 1.

Mobil 1 / Mobilube SHC 75w90 for non-lsd equipped transmissions.
Mobil 1 / Mobilube SHC 75w90 LS for lsd equipped transmissions.

If you have an lsd and cannot find SHC LS (for example, in the UK it's only available in 25l drums), you can use the normal SHC fluid and add a small bottle of LSD friction modifier. The difference is the 'LS' version has the lsd additive present already.

I used Swepco recently (1994 C4) and it resulted in notchy shifting when cold (not sure what was in there before).

I will try the Mobil Delvac next, probably...
