Maybe a stupid question but what are some of you guys using for keeping track of work you have done maintenance wise to your cars.I was thinking it is nice keeping all receipts for purchased parts and work done but i would like to organize it in a fashion where items, dates, mileage, costs are recorded along with a list of items needing to be addressed. Not just for myself but future resale should that day ever come. I've seen some mention spread sheets but does anybody here keep a hand written log with pictures?

Besides hardcopies, using iphone app "VehiCal" for keeping record. It can export to html format.

I keep a log of everything I have done to the car since purchased in date order, along with any receipts.
I also include photo's of the work done.
I keep this in a folder with all the other paperwork. As I do all the sevicing and repairs myself I hope this will help if, and when I come to sell.

Example below

Keith

11/07/11
109,657 mls
MOT passed

12/07/11
109,659 mls
Oil change (Mobil 1 fully synthetic).
Oil filter change.
Door hinges oiled.
Front and back brake pads and discs checked

30/7/11
109,712 mls
Removed side skirts thorough clean and waxoiled, replaced rubber seal.

What do is print a picture from the PET or someplace else and highlight the parts changed in red date milage and so forth on the picture. I then enter into a log what was done. This way like the oil lines replaced I just look at the print and I know what oil lines have been replaced same with the shift linkages I have done and the rest. This will help on resale as the buyer can see first hand and also a good record for yourself and what has to be done later

I keep a folder w/ pics of all the projects/changes/status of the car over the time i've had it (similar to the threads I make on here), I keep an Excel file w/ all the money i've spent on the car, maintenance intervals, etc., and I keep a binder w/ all the hardcopy receipts.

I use a spreadsheet for quick access to all history on one 'page', total running costs, split between parts and labor, part numbers replaced etc. The best part for me is a simple calculation that tells me how many miles, and years since a given entry/service. For example I enter the car's current mileage and it tells me it's been 3615 miles / 11.5 months since the last oil change and 11k miles / 4 years since the last valve adjustment. Actual receipts are in a folder but with the spreadsheet I never revisit them.

Hey this is a picture of what I was talking about in the other thread, if the picture comes out .. A handy fast note to see what has been done and what not at just a glance.. After looking atthe picture sorry for the big print ..Also the part numbers are right there ..
