I'm not that surprised by the price actually.
I look at it from a supply and demand point of view. I just think the market for that kind of car is super small.
I don't question the craftsmanship nor the efforts put into the car, I just don't think there is a market for that.
Stunning car nevertheless.
I guess the question now is: what's next???

The guy who bought it looked in his 60's and was one of the very few people left; second day of auction, raining, odd location, one of the last lots, oddly described as 1976 in the details. A pretty average but low miles Baltic Blue C4 with cloth non sport seats made £33 too. An RSR rep based on a 1972 2.4T made £68.
I'm not happy but it was pointed out that " people prefer an original 911"
Well that ain't me and I'm glad I didn't own a 964 like anyone else's.
The journey has been worth it all the way. Thank you my little Gulfy 964 friend for putting a smile on my face just thinking about you, for demisting properly, for taking out 3.3 Turbos in torrential rain on French autoroutes, for your ABS when I left the braking too late on a wet Wandsworth roundabout, for being photo bombed by teenage tourists, for the thumbs up from traffic policemen and for the lovely look from the rented looking blonde in the passenger seat of the rented looking Bentley GTC.
So it is with sadness I also sign off and thank all you Rennlisters for being there too, for your infectious enthusiasm, your knowledge, your opinions ( mostly) and for being the essential ingredient in the making of a great forum.
Keep up the good work. Regards Tom

No question original is almost always worth more and easier to sell. There is a bigger market for it, particularly with our cars particularly bought as investments. However had you not had to sell in a rush I'm sure you would have got 40k plus.

I say this with all due respect, but I think this car was hugely undersold. Forcing/ auctioning a sale on a niche car like this is risky...
As others have said, it's a unique car with a niche buyer interest. As such it would have been best to sell it slowly, list it with a dealer like JZM - where it can sit until the right buyer comes along. They sold a similar looking IROC inspired car (owned by an L9O) based on a SuperSport for £ 75K IIRC. It took time to sell, but I understand it sold well.
I would not have accepted anything less than £ 55K+ for it and that's me being pessimistic. However I understand you were keen to see a sale.

Was £37k the hammer price ? If I'm reading it correctly, the buyer gets £33k after fee's and the seller has bought it for circa £42k inc. buyers premium ? Surely, as mentioned above, it would have been better to use JZM or someone like Phil Raby to sell it ? Either way, it's gone now, time to move on and you have the memories
