well, it runs just as I remember it from last year. What is new is a bit of timing chain noise... possible cause is a failing ramp, or tensioner. Ben is going to take a ride out today, so we'll see what he thinks. Also, they gave me some of the ceramic chunks that had come out of cylinder #2- they said the compression is still the same- measuring about 125.

I did take it for a drive... I'll be honest. I could hear noise from the back when I was off throttle that I don't remember hearing before. Coincidence, or just happenstance?

either way, I'm in for a few things in the VERY near future, but not $7k

A couple of things could be going on 1 you have a super sensitive ear now.
2 you do have a bad tensioner or ramp but how does that go bad from sitting? or 3 the valves have been adjusted a bit loose? I know mine make some decent valvetrain noise off throttle that annoys me but that I attribute to me not having a headliner panel in the sunroof and all the noise is transmitted through the one spot. now that the panel is back in place it is almost nonexistent. I have really good records of what was done on my car so mine will wait until this winter for a reseal and inspection.

well, I won't disagree with that either. I think we all do when we run into a similar situation. The chain issue may have been there, and just gotten worse, or I just pay attention to it now. Either way, it can't hurt to look. And maybe look for freshly touched bolts in places they shouldn't have touched

Every time I listen to any of the motors I have owned I always hear things I fear . Funny thing is when I listen to other peoples motors it really never happens . Mechanical hypochondria , I have it .

Congrats that its running. Its been too long. Can you summarize what the fault(s) were for it not starting? Was it only the pinched fuel hose at the fuel pump?

They got spark after putting the new sensor on, gapping it correctly, and putting the new connector and correct pins on the wiring harness. Then he said the fuel pump sounded REALLY noisy- so they looked at the pump and found the kinked hose. they changed it out with the spare pump I had sent along

Thanks for the recap. Two simultaneous faults. No wonder it was hard to troubleshoot. Sheesh! Glad its running again.

It wouldn't hurt to pull the chain covers and confirm you don't have a failing tensioner. They are susceptible to failure if they sit for extended length of time. At the same time I'd pull the cam covers and inspect the valve springs to make sure you don't have a cracked spring.

The ceramic in the exhaust is no big deal happens all the time.

ok I just got back from Hawks.

1st car sounds pretty good though it needs to go through adaption again as the cars battery died at some point.

2nd at idle sounds perfect

3rd cranking sounds good

4th acelaration to 2500 or so there is some sort of faint rattle almost like a piece of tin is vibrating which I believe is fan/alternator related.

5th power steering pump is making a noise

so I left Goeff with my fan tool to take the belts off and see if the noise continues, told him to check power steering fluid, and report back then if need be pull the chain covers off to verify the chains are tight.

I also suggested an oil test kit so he can verify that internally the engine is sound which I believe it to be. I did not hear anything terrible.

I think it is good to go so now to hear back on this post

The cat has some heat shields on it that can rattle if one if the screws is loose or missing.

The rattle sounded like it was coming from the top side not the bottom. And, if I feel confident enough to drive it, I can take it to shue or some other shop too for a second opinion.
