Jim,
Buy mine! Its better than Tore's I think Tom and I have one more left in stock. It will sell eventually. But I think that's it. Tore can take over the business.
Tore, I just ordered a T-lock from you. I've always wanted keyless locks on my car and will upgrade my Tip using your kit. If that works out I will upgrade my C4 as well.

I built my own scantool for less than $25 about 6 years ago and it even checks my TIP

OK, I'm another one who can't get it to work with Tores T-OBD.
Here's what I've done.
I'm using Windows 7.
I plugged it into my laptop and Windows automatically installed the drivers - I guess from the internet, and the device is showing up on COM 4. I changed this in the scantool.ini file and copied this to the C:/WINDOWS folder.
Thinking it could be a driver issue, tried to re-install the drivers manually, but it said that everything was up-to-date already.
Any ideas on what could be the problem?
Thanks!
Andrew

Hello Andrew, I've had very few problems with the T-OBD.
Have you tried the tests in the troubleshooting file included in the zip file package? Also, when using the T-OBD in the 964 the switch must always be set in the DME position. Ignition must be on.
Does the red internal control light flash when trying to contact the engine control? Have you tried to contact other things than the engine control unit in your car, maybe the CCU?
Cheers,
Tore

Hi Tore,
Yes, I always have the ignition turned on.
I've just tested the T-OBD using Hyperterminal and the blue light flashes as it should on the unit when I type, so I don't think your unit is the problem.
In Scantool the red light does flash on and off whilst it's trying to connect, but it doesn't actually connect, even after leaving it for a few minutes. (how long should it normally take?) At the moment, I've only really tried connecting to Motronic, so I'll try with the other functions at the weekend.
Thanks

OK, thanks Andy, you've got an successful T-OBD and driver installation.
993s equipped with Porche Immobilizer have problems connecting to the DME Motronic unit. As far as I know, no 964's have Immobilizers.
Looking forward to hearing from your test results, all tips will go directly into the troubleshooting file.
Cheers,
Tore

Most probably not. As far as I know, most aftermarket systems only inhibit the starter circuit, not the OBD connections to the DME.
The 993 Porsche immobilizer is highly integrated into the DME and won't allow any OBD connections unless it's unlocked, probably by special signals sent from the Bosch Hammer or Porsche Piwis systems.
Cheers,
Tore

One thing, have you remembered to rename or copy the 964 cfg file to scantool.cfg?
If not, you'll have problems connecting the DME since it operates with a different baud rate than the 993. Some, if not all other units in the 964 (CCU, alarm/ABS and air bag) could be possible to contact with the 993 cfg-file. However, these have slightly different settings so the best thing is to use the 964 file.
Hope this helps,
Cheers from

Hi Tore,
So you're saying is that I have to rename the file "scantool_964_cfg.txt" to "scantool.cfg"? Does this file just need to be in the same folder as the scantool.exe file?
If so, this is something I didn't do, although there is already a scantool.cfg file which was in the ZIP file I downloaded. Is this one only for the 993?
Thanks!

You are right Andy. This is described in the installation and user manuals I have included in the zip file. Details are given there.

Tore

OK, cool. It sounds like this is my problem then. I'll try it and let you know how I get one. (I'm not sure how I missed that in the instructions. D'oh!)
Thanks!
