Scantool needs to have the correct com port information in the scantool.ini file, and this file needs to be placed in the Windows folder. (most often C:\Windows)
The application does not cope with com port numbers above 9, and you have to make sure that your USB serial adapter or RS232 port have a number within this range. (check Control Panel/Device manager)
I have lots of installation information in my Scantool downloadable file here.
Cheers,
Tore

As one of the guilty that sold this thing to chris951 I am glad it worked it out. It is a hobbyist's tool. Those guys out of Norway made the real hammer replacement but you will pay for it. PDT999 I have one to bleed the locks on my C4 and love it. Tom and I are about sold out of these things and not sure we are going to make anymore. I'm happy we've done our part to help keep the 964s rolling.

Thanks. I know who to ask now if I have any problems! I'll be using Windows 7 too!
Now all I need to do is get the valve adjust screwdriver and I'm all set!

cannot comment on hammer but the PST2 tester takes it power from the odb port itself once you turn ignition switch on it will draw power from cars 12 volt supply. however it still has batteries which are quite easy to change out if needed as basic lap top battery. Also it has its mains charger adapter which when working on cars can also be connected via extension lead. I just found the factory tool can do a lot more on our cars then the standard generic code readers etc. my 2 cents lol

Chris,
I bought one of these as well and felt the same way you did until I had a computer tech i work with change the com port. My only issue is that for some reason it only connects to climate control and the Air bag but not the motronic or the ABS. Kind of crazy. I have been told the the new snap on scanners have the obd1 round plug adapter so I may try that as I know a guy LOL.

I've made a USB-based OBD adapter called T-OBD for use with the Rennlist Scantool software. This is not a Hammer replacement. However, scantool do most of the functions in both the 964 and 993.
Details here.

Take a look the PDT-999. I've used one once. It enabled me to bleed my C4 all wheel drive locks. It worked very well. A friend owns it.

Yeah, Jim, PDT999 handheld hammer replacement is not cheap, but cheaper than a real hammer, and its wonderful engineered little product. If you look up my C4 brake bleed procedure you can see how nice it is to have one as a C4 owner.

Jim, the time for purchase is now. I'll be off to the post office on tuesday morning, and maybe you'll have it ready in the weekend.
You'll need a OBD adapter for your 993, mine is called T-OBD and has USB connection. All software is included in the zip downloadable on my website.

Tore
