Emergency engine lid release

Emergency engine lid release
There is an emergency frunk release fitted to my car (accessible via the front light cluster).
Is it worth fitting one for the engine bay lid or are there never issues with the cable on this release?
cheers

I put one in mine, just for peace of mind. The lock already had and extra hole and set screw for the second cable, so it was an easy job to run a wire out into the left rear light housing.

The engine lid latch on the early 964s are spring loaded so that they open if the cable snaps so there's not much point in putting an emergency cable release in.
I know this because when I viewed my car to buy it, the cable snapped. A bit of pressing and general jiggling about saw it pop open and it would no longer latch shut. So when I collected the car, the first thing I had to do was put a new cable in! I then paid for it and drove it home.

I believe the latch changed for 91 cars but I can't be 100% sure. The easy check is to look to see if you've got the emergency release cable, if not, then you should have the earlier spring loaded latch. The best insurance is to change the cable if it's never been changed. It's very easy to change it. Mine broke because it had rusted through at the handle. The new one should be good for another 20 years.

You say you could not find the release behind the driver's side tail light. Is it LHD or RHD? For cars with the emergency release it will be behind the left light regardless of it being LHD or RHD. If there's no emergency release, you must have the earlier spring loaded latch so try lots of pressing and pulling on the lid to try and free it. Mine took lots of persuasion before it finally popped open. A friend couldn't get his to release but it then freed itself while driving along.
