Default Think you know all the good roads around your house? (2nd loop with a RL friend)

Ever leave your house in the 964 just looking for new roads, randomly taking lefts and rights hoping to stumble onto something new...I did today and I struck GOLD!

I took advantage of the wonderful weather today and took the 964 out on an extended drive. Though it was probably past peak fall foliage, it was worth seeing what was out there? Really, I was looking for an excuse to find some new twisties.

During a brief pit stop at Willis' Bait, Gossip, & Tackle (yes that's the real name), I struck up a conversation with the gentlemen working at the counter...sight of the 964 made that easy. I told them I was "curve hunting", well it's an understatement to say that these men knew all the good roads in the area! They described a road that sounded too good to be true...and it was less than ten miles away. I was ready to start heading home by this point in the drive but it seemed worth a look? OMG were they right!

Sorry for the long winded story set up, but I found a whole new section of roads not too far from the house and I'm on cloud nine. I'm sure you guys can relate (not everyone can live in Austria, some of us have to work for our turns). To really feel satisfied at the end of a drive, I used to think I had to drive to the mountains, which involves a couple boring hours on a HI-PO infested highway. Big thumbs up to the guys at Willis'!

The foliage was definitely past prime, but I got in a couple nice shots...

Carolina Tobacco leaves drying

Pumps were dry at this station...

Wanted to get a better shot of the building but suddenly this little tough guy came out of nowhere and started to constantly nip at my heels. I thought he was going to bite my tire!

Back on the road screaming past abandon barn after abandon barn...something looks different here?

Unfortunately this picture doesn't capture how epic this tree was.

Tired after hours of driving, I need a snack. This place looks interesting?

The road gurus. I can't thank these guys enough!

Random photo opportunity.

Back in the woods.

So with the sun rapidly disappearing, I got this pretty lame leaf shot, definitely aided by the couple stray beams of light highlighting the yellow tree. At this point it didn't matter anyway.

These cars are amazing and they open the door to such wonderful adventures. I think I may go back tomorrow...

Never been to America but those pics seem like everything that i would like about the great country. Not fussed on the city or sky scrapers but those pics are beautiful, you seem to have driveways as big as our county's.

Thanks for sharing.

Hell yes!
I was going to wax the car tomorrow, but driving is more fun.

Definitely, Andrew, that'd be awesome!!

I have been driving in north GA, near Suches and so on --- very cool roads.

Had a great time driving a portion of 911Jetta's route today --- we both have some pics to post, and I'll have mine up shortly!

Cheers!

Andrew,
It's all about getting out with our cars, meeting people and having a wonderful time. Maybe one day we could meet half way, in Greenville and head north. I just came back from that area after visiting Road Atlanta. LOTS of incredible roads in that area.

Reading of my adventure was enough to convince GoKart (Adrian) to finally meet up with me. (we live 10+ miles apart)

So after a quick coffee at the house he headed out for a lap of the "North Loop". What a day, with so many stories along the way...mostly on GoKart's side though.

Multiple Porsches running in the country never looks good, so BIG thanks to Adrian for "taking one for the team"! Less that 10 minutes into the run we woke up a sheriff.
I was gone and had already taken a turn when I noticed Adrian going straight. I waited a bit thinking he would catch back up? Thank you officer for giving Adrian a warning.

When upgrading your chip to 93 Octane, keep in mind it's not always available in the back country. I was worried for the guy when he said the gas light had been on for 10 minutes already.
We had miles to go until the next station. No 93. Now miles to go until the next station.

We won't talk about the "new" road I found...with the 500 yards of gravel connecting two wonderful curvy asphalt stretches?? I didn't see the sign, so as I rounded a really nice curve I was committed.
What a cloud of dust! Sorry about that buddy, I was taking a short cut to get back to the loop...that road is crossed off the list.

Sorry to get you home late, hope the wife wasn't too upset?!
Very nice meeting you Adrian, your car is stunning.

I’ve found a new friend! Curve hunting is fun, 93 octane hunting not so fun…

Finally, guzzling down some nectar.

Back at the abandon cars. We forgot out trailer hitches so we can't take these bad boys home with us.

Back at the store. Running out of time with LOTS of curves to come…

My friend is gone and I’m looking for photo opportunities so I remember to stop and get out of the car every once in a while.

Since I was in the neighborhood I stopped by one of the best local Porsche specialists in the area.
It felt strange parking such a healthy car among the carcass’. I’m going to take my pictures and get out of here.

Back after taking the longest “milk run” in the world, I buy some groceries and as I walk to my car I see this. Horses-for-courses I guess?
