Pitting on cam lobes
Epoxy on bottom of crank case previously applied during the PO $4800 engine seal 4000 miles ago. Of course, this looks shadetree and failed.
Engine is at machine shop now - Getting cams resurfaced to RS specs (if possible - If not, I will have to buy new one (Picture only shows substantial damage to one cam but both are this way).
As the P.O. had 10-years worth of receipts for oil changes and regular maintenance, what would have caused this damage? Thoughts???
Could it have happened because he rarely drove it and to top lobe of the cam may have dried out (no oil) and created a rust spot that chipped off?

Looks like you could eat off it...10-years of receipts outlining a perfect maintenance routine.

WOW,
The cams don't look all that bad for 20 year old ones, I've seen a lot worse.
That case looks like a complete micky job. I'd be pissed if I was the PO who paid for that.

964 RS cams share the same specs (lift/duration) as normal 964 cams - the only difference is RS's with manual steering (basic/lightweight) would have a different right (offside) camshaft without the power steering sprocket.
993 RS cams were designed for an engine with a 3,8 litre displacement.
If your mechanic is regrinding to 964 RS spec then he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Not meaning to add to your bill but it appears the distributor vent kit hasn't been installed, which means the distributor belt should be replaced as well.

I didn't notice the lack of distrib vent, but that is another teltale sign that PO and his garage had no clue.
Let's get this car to the right shop.

Guy not finding it funny, but if you read all my posts here goes to my same point seems like your jumping into repairs you don't know anything about and just trusting one mechanic. I think we have all suggested you should get a second pinion and try to learn as much as possible before spending more and more money.
