LONDON 964 OWNERS - 12th meet 4th Dec- PICTURES!!!

I do have the rear shelf uncovered at the moment so can confirm 2 holes in the outside position previously used for the rear inertia reels and 2 inboard that are used in some countries for child seat anchorage. The inboard holes are quite a lot smaller that the usual seat belt anchor bolts, that is why I discounted using them as they are, I was instead going to use all 4 bolts and fabricate some box section to spread the load.

As far as I'm aware no 964 (even RS or cup models) came with ready installed harness anchor points in the rear shelf. So if you want to attach as per the pic above, holes have to be drilled and a threaded spreader plate put underneath (preferably welded) to attach the eye bolts to. As already mentioned the 964 NGT and cup had a fully welded matter cage with bars to attach the harness to, so didn't need holes in the rear shelf.
If there is no welded cage the alternative is to use a harness guide bar to route the straps over and attach them to eyebolts put in the two rear seat bolt anchor points.
Also, don't forget about the anchor points for the inboard lap straps. The RS and cups had anchor points put in the tunnel. Normal 964s need holes drilling in the tunnel and threaded spreader plates put inside the tunnel to fasten the eyebolts to. The outboard lap strap can simply be connected to an eyebolt put in the lower seat belt anchor point below the B pillar.

I think I will end up fabricating a steel bar that picks up on the existing mount holes rather than drill holes in my car, as for the tunnel I already have the RS brackets on my Recaro's, so can attach inner harness there.

Otherwise Steve is spot on about harness mounting points. My RS had eyebolts mounted through the rear bulkhead for the harness to clip onto, but I wasn't happy with this, wanting a stronger anchor point, so I had mine re-located to the parcel shelf as in the picture of the blue RS. One hole is the existing rear inertia reel mounting (still there on an RS shell), but the other hole in the shelf does need to be enlarged. It is not a difficult job and I have seen many 911s (of all ages) using this configuration.
Even so, this is still not optimal, as ideally you want as short harness-strap length as possible, to reduce the chance of stretch in an impact, but if your rollcage (like mine) doesn't have a crossbar to mount harnesses directly, then this is a viable option.
On a previous 964 I used the lower rear seatbelt mounting points and a guidebar, which worked equally well, though has pretty much the same drawback with strap length.
Clearly the best solution is a fully welded cage with corssbar for harness mounting, but this isn't always practical !!!
