Hi Colin,

A great story from beginning to end.

I suppose it's a little sad when a fantastic project which has become part of your life comes to it's finale, but for Erik, I'm guessing his story is just beginning

Great build & thanks for sharing,
Paul

Thank you Colin, an inspiration to all, I signed up to rennlist.com just to join in on your thread!

I'm also converting a 964 to a Gulf Blue 1973 3.0RS look/ homage/ look but on a very tight budget. Otherwise I'd be round to your place...It's also a C4 as I cant drive a 911 properly. Photo attached. It took me a few years to find a non sunroof original blue C4

What are your plans for the dual exit exhaust please? Do I have to lose my ability to heat the cabin?

Cheers!

We built this from a stock 964C4 (note the dual exhaust):

Thanks Colin and thanks for the welcome, I think I prefer Erik's interpretation...

We got started on the strip out this month, the intention is not for replica accuracy but to achieve period accuracy for the 1970's with the look of a race car that's had a very hard life. No modern looking bits inside! 7 years ago I was given a number of Gulf Racing items from a neighbour who worked there until 1974, the obsession mushroomed from there. If anyone's interested I will start a thread. It will not be as good as Colin's much missed postings

Well, yes of course, it's an easy choice to make. Maybe not so much when you consider that the 9m 3.0RS cost ~1/5 of the cost of Erik's, which is why I posted the photos in response to your "budget" build idea. The RS was built for 5000 mile "historic" rally in Thailand, pleased to say it completed the event, came second in class and won the most reliable car award as it remained untouched by the event mechanics throughout its journey. Will now be in a container on its way back to Blighty.

Don't worry, lots more to come in respect of the engine & electronics once we have it all coming together.

I agree that we should start a thread for all things Gulf, I would really like to see all the stuff that is in folk's garage collections? I'm also happy to post photos of the build of the Gulf 9m 3.0RS if you are interested.

Colin - from the photos I think you are "hogging the strike" a tad. When does the new owner get a drive?

Hmm, 9m59 has a certain ring to it, but not sure what 9m could add to the equation that would better the effort that Porsche made?
