The fan was powdercoated first but I didn't like the finish that much so oversprayed with VHT paint. The engine tins are not powdercoated but yellow zinc pass plated, I think you guys in the US call it cadium plating, this way it's dipped and has good coverage, less likely to chip the zinc off, then overcoated with a VHT mat clearcoat. This makes it appear like a gold colour...Note how different they are from the first picture.Time will tell if I've done the right thing.

Andy.

Thats the rearmost memeber of the engine, supports the A/C compressor too.

so do we have a definitive list of tools yet, including a stand? I'm trying to prepare for this winter project, which in WI can be anywhere from now until next May

Geoff - Do you have Adrian's book? It has a good listing of tools needed to drop the engine. The engine stand is optional. You can do many things without one. I have. But would a engine stand be handy? Oh yea! Its on my tools wish list.

I do have his book. I'll have a look. I wonder how much to rent a stand...

Update, I ordered some of the major parts that were to be changed:
Motor mounts by Wevo
Tranny mount by Turbokraft
Engine mount gusset kit by rennline
Transmission release fork upgrade by Zim's
new intake injector housings and rubber boots for those.

but those would all be the easy parts. I'm a bit OCD so I keep taking more and more off the engine to clean. I found a few broken studs on the engine shroud, I broke a couple of studs removing the heat exchangers too, long road ahead of me!

I also got injectors out and will send those out for rebuilding
Transmission is out-looking for a deal on a lsd. If I find one I midas well do it now.
Still have not removed clutch for inspection
Engine shroud has a few broken mounting tabs
Need to weld gusset into engine mount
need to hot tank and send out my panels for powdercoat.

much more I'm forgetting!

are you keeping track of cost for this? It scares me, but if I don't do it now it may cost me more down the road-- literally down the road and not in my garage where I have options.

I have not checked in for a while but I have been takign care of a lot of the smaller and very time consuming areas such as cleaning, etc.

All engine tins out to powder coat
Alternator fan and housing out for media blasting
exhaust studs out (broke two, looong day), could use advise on an upgrade....
Factory LSD on it's way to me, then tranny is going out for reseal and LSD install.
Injectors out for rebuild and testing
Tons of parts ordered

This week's to do list
helicoil two exhaust threads
remove and check clutch assembly, decide whether or not to buy RS clutch setup.
Timing chain covers are leaky, find leak and reseal....

Hello Hawk!

This engine dropping thing is in my future but I want to get one of those maxjax lifts first. I am also about to get some a compressor and air tools in my garage. I don't think my engine needs a serious rebuild, its only got 59k miles, but I'd love to clean it up, take care of my drip-drip oil leak and all the other "while your in there bits"

Good luck on this one. And on figuring out a engine stand/holder solution.

Ricardo
