Default Your lightweight/RS inspired 964

Well since the forum seems kind of slow lately (summer doldrums perhaps?), I thought I'd start a thread and see who has a 964 thats been built with a 'lightweight' or RS theme. Doesn't have to be extreme - just in the right spirit. I'll finally be back home in about two weeks and have a few parts waiting for me - seats, RS carpet, brake vents, etc. (the usual), and wanted to see what other listers have done with their cars.

Post em if ya got em!

Very nicely done. Looks great. The black rubber pieces look very fresh, or am I just not used to seeing a RED Porsche?

Ilko: Nice......very nice. What has your experience been with the Shifti install, set-up/calibration and performance since ? How/where have you located the lights - following the .pdf write-up w/ fab'd tab or otherwise ?

Obviously I was thinking of this 'lil toy as an addition as I'm starting to run out of project plans.

Thanks! I'm actually taking it off this weekend and was thinking of selling it here for $130 shipped. Comes with all paperwork and best of all, it's calibrated for 964 and 993 cars.

Now with the shameless plug out of the way, let me answer your questions

The install was pretty easy. I did not splice any of the tacho wires, instead I was able to wedge the wire tips in the pins of the harness that goes in the back of the tachometer. Set-up was pretty straight-forward, the instructions that came with it are relatively clear. Just read them a couple of times before setting it up, because there are some timed executions that if you miss you'll have to start over. Performance-wise it's been flawless, however I find that I don't use it that much since in my case most of the torque is in the mid-RPM range and I upshift around 6K RPM anyway. The voltage meter function is pretty cool as well, but now I have a separate volt gauge in the radio slot, so I'm using that instead.

Regarding location, I've had it on two spots. My initial idea was to put it on the dash. Unfortunately the stock steering wheel is quite large and obstructs the view. So initially I had it placed on the steering column. Not exactly in the line of sight I thought, but it was quite visible - the LED's are quite bright and... they reflect on the windshield DIRECTLY in your line of sight - like the current M5

Here's what it looked like:

Now I have the Momo wheel and have relocated it on the dash, directly in line of sight:

Hope this helps.

I've seen this car in the steel and it is BADA$$
The exhaust note is the most unique sound I've ever heard from a flat 6.

Would you mind taking some close up shots of the carpet? I am trying to decide whether to go the the perlon felt or silverknit for my next carpet kit. I did the silverknit on my last 964 and while it was nice, I'm not sure if it was worth double.

Thanks!

Paul - coming from the owner of such a gorgeous, correct 965, I'll take that as high praise indeed. BTW, weather looks promising for a bit of bench racing @ AutoZone Sat. morning. Hope to see you there. And bite the bullet and do the Grattan DE in October, eh ? Absloutely love the 965 color - looks analogous to Arnold dressed in his governor duds. May have the veneer of civility but don't **** with him...ever, you'll lose !

Default 917K:

Carpet shots I had in stock:

Hope those help. Bear in mind that this job is a very serious bitch. You will reach a point where you stand back and wonder what the bloody hell you've done (and why). But, it was all worth it in my opinion and results are very pleasing.

To wit: Porsche glue recipe used under carpet/insulation material apparently has come direct from God himself. I struggled to understand how mere mortal humans could have conjured up a material that sticky.

Best.

917K, Oops, sorry I'd forgotten you already done the carper install and know the fun of such. My God man, you're actually considering doing it again ? Are you related to the Marquis de Sade ?

Thank you very much. The felt doesn't look too bad to me.

In regards to Porsche glue, I had almost no leg hair left after the last carpet job. I won't wear shorts next time...
