993 Vram into a 91 964
Hi guys
I've searched and found only chat about this conversion but no actual examples - does anyone have any links or details of people that have done it.
Got a lead on a decent motor and fancy chucking a Vram into the 964 and then putting the 964 lump into an SC I have been prepping for track.
I've done a 993 into 1988 911 conversion previously so quite familiar with the territory but wanted to do a bit more research before buying the Vram motor.
I can get the Loom and ECU from the Vram.
Obviously the Vram exhaust system wont fit into the 964 chassis but I can put some studs into the spare holes on the Vram head and fit the 964 exhaust for the time being.
Anything else to consider...? Are the power steering setups the same?
Will it fit? Vram must be a bit taller than a 964 lump? I can space it down a tad if needs be but id rather not.

Thanks Indycam - I'd missed one of those threads but read the others.
Sounds like 1 oil pipe to deal with and more hassles if you want to use a 993 HE based exhaust system on the 993 engine - other than that good to go?
Think I'll buy the engine and make a start.
Any additional help/pics/experience more than welcome

Picked the engine up today:
And this is its new home:
Still havent worked out how to sort one of the oil lines as the 993 and 964 hook up slightly differently but I'm sure it wont be too hard to sort. Probably a bit of fiddling to do to get the clutch etc working but I will have a 993 and 964 clutch&flywheel available during the conversion so hopefully I can muddle it out.
Any other tips.....?

I look forward to reading about your pioneering work as you go along. I have the vram but in a 993. Sorry cannot answer your direct queries but do not forget to search upon the vacuum needed to keep those vram valves opening/closing at the relevant rev speeds.
Presume you will not have this ready for the Hartley Witney meet on 30 August.

Not sure about the pioneering bit, more of a backyard tinkerer
The 964 is actually my partners car, I'm more into my Impact Bumpers (<89). The deal was I'll fit her a Vram if I can use her 964 motor in an SC project car I'm currently working on. Seen some decent results with mapped Vrams so it should give her 964 a little more shove on track.
What going on at Hartley Wintney, I must have missed the thread? We'll pop down if we still have a car in one piece.

Jevvy - gonna keep my eye on this thread, its something i have been thinking about should the inevitable happen to my 964.... Where did you get the engine from and how much?
I work in Green Park and bring my 964 into work every once in a while!!

Porsche has a TSB to backdate a 993 case to a 964 since the 964 cases went out of production when 993 came around. The oil line you are speaking of is for the oil supply from the tank to the case and it simply requires an adapter available from the dealer as a part number in the TSB.

The clutch is nearly toast on the 964 so will probably bash on and try to get the Vram fitted ASAP - welcome to swing by once its sorted.

How can I track the number down or even a copy of the TSB? Will my local OPC know what I'm talking about?
Appreciate the tip
