I have a 993 RSR type engine in my car and a 6spd in my car. It bolts in.

I have a G50/32 (6-speed, so "993") transmission that will go into my car in a week when it is reassembled.

I have friends how put a 993 engine in a 964 and it was basically bolt in but required re-routing an oil line and a couple other minor mods.

Actually there is an adapter one can purchase for the oil feed line to the case and then you can use all of the factory oil lines and parts.

Whats a decent 993 engine run ($$)- seems like a better bet potentially than an extensive 964 top end rebuild no?

993s aren't exactly new these days though - they are still at least 10 years old. I'd think you stand as much chance of needing a top end rebuild on the 993 engine as on the 964.

993 top ends have their own set of issues...

True enough- but there seem to be more 993 GQ's out there with modest (by comparison miles)-if (IF) you could find one wrecked the motor might be worth it.

Anyway just looking at the options.

Sure you can buy a used motor for less than a rebuild, but there is no guarantee for how long it will run. I went through this decision when my engine blew up (rod bolt came off and I had a fist sized hole in my engine's case). Rather than buy a salvaged engine and use it, I decided to have a new engine built as I would have much greater confidence in it's ability to last - and I could have some of the parts upgraded.

Tom- that occurred to me as well and makes real sense. Known vs. unknown.

I know- pathetic isn't it.

I finally got everything else sorted out and now my leak down numbers are bad so I'm weighing the options; top-end rebuild, 3.8 conversion, 993 motor, Chevy small block- its all on the table.

There goes my Cup transmission money : /
