Eric,

I'm still waiting for a response from Geoffry on the relocation of sensors, but I have already purchased a filter console on ebay :0

The temp and pressure sensors should screw into the turbo housing.

Sorry for the delay, here is what we're talking about. The 964 case has plugs in the upper two oil holes whereas the 993 case does not. The 964 case needs to have the plugs removed. Additionally, the left hole on my case was 19mm where the rubber seal fits and needs to be 22mm. I bored mine out with a custom made tool. My case is the only one that I've seen that way all others have the seat for the oil seal properly sized. Just be aware that some differences exist. The bottom of the 964 case has the oil line bolted on where the 993 case has a press in oil line. Someone modified my case to the 993 style, but it doesn't matter, there is sufficient clearance for the oil filter console. As you can see the oil filter console fits teriible and I can't believe Porsche engineers left it this way, but it is the same on the 964 Turbo and 993 so who knows. The 964 case has this hole in the thermostat area where the 993 does not. The 964 Turbo thermostat housing blocks off this hole and forces oil through the oil filter. So, there you have it...

Geoffrey,
Thank you for clearing this up. It's going to take me a while to remove the 16 years of grime on the sealing surfaces, but I can see how it's going to work now.

Default The Thermostat Part Detailed

Things go slowly around my house

Here is the 965 insert for the thermostat area on the 964 case. It has fittings for the oil pressure and temperature senders. Since it blocks off the oil flow to the factory location for these senders, you need to relocate them. I assume (of course) that you need to block off the sender location in the block as well. I have yet to test fit the senders in this housing. Getting a plug for the case location should not be too difficult I suppose.

Never trival, these upgrades

The plug for the case is part number 900.219.009.30 and the sealing washer is 900.123.140.30. I'm not sure what you mean by relocating the sensors. I located the oil pressure sensor in the oil galley that would feed the turbocharger on a C2 Turbo and I located the oil temp sensor in the thermostat housing itself and plugged the other port.

Geoffrey,
Quick question about the temperature sender. The turbo cover uses a smaller diameter temp sender than the stock 964. Do you know if the turbo sender (a 944 part #) will work correctly with the gauge? Or do I need to replace (recalibrate maybe) the gauge? (looks like you are using different sender in your pictures.....) Thanks.

I guess I better check the fit of my oil temp sender in this part, since I am using a '87 type sender I might get lucky!

Chris,
Please post if it fits. I'm going to order the 944 part and have to test the readings for both to see if the gauge will read correctly.

Turns out the 944 part # sensor is for the DME, not the gauge. To use the existing sensor, you need to get adapter # 964.107.705.22, which goes from the 14mm sensor to 18mm, which can replace the dummy plug that mounts next to the "cover". It's the fitting on the left, the right is the original dummy plug. I hope this helps someone........

Thanks Eric - What did you use to plug the oil temp location in the 965 thermo cover?

I bought the 944 part # temperature sensor ($15 or so), and used it as a plug.......

To help future readers of this thread, here are the part #'s
964.107.705.22 – Screw Socket (adapts your 911 part number oil sender to the hole in the block)
944.606.125.00 – Temp Sender (plugs the hole in the thermostat insert)
