What are the chances that I would make another "misstake" and hit the intersection you were in when you got hit ?

Stripped some stuff off the engine to give it a bit of a clean and change a few gaskets etc:
Will keep this thread updated with my progress.

Yes - I am beginning to think so - probably should have done what you are doing - but - I kind of find this interesting as one of the side changes that I am doing to be able to run the Varioram is add a whole new engine management system. This had to be custom built, but I am also adding coil packs instead of distributors and using lot of other feed back/ sensors to get better info from the engine to the EMS. As I said before have not really started as I am still putting all parts together.

Phase 2
After a bit of a quiet spell (weddings etc) the point of no return arrived this weekend:
Final shot before:
Always in on the act:
Halfway lowered - lots more to unhook on a 964 than the earlier stuff:
Finally on the floor:
I then ran out of spanner energy and the engine is probably best left under the car until next weekend anyway.
The Mrs started on the interior as we want to swap the whole loom out. We knew it had been leaking a bit but didnt expect the amount of water that was soaked into the rear seat sound pad etc so it all came out - check yr rear seat areas if you park outside.
I cant persuade babs to go powerless steering in the 964 so been looking at alternatives and came across this:
Doesn't look like much but it is an electric PS pump from a 996 cup car - ooo-er sailor! Here are some more details and link to the original PP thread:
Power steering - The swap was easier than I anticipated, but like a lot of this custom work not without some unforeseen difficulties. The pump is 996 cup with it's reservoir built into the top of the pump. I created a custom mounting in the front trunk. I had to use high pressure areoquip style hose on the pressure side. I hooked up to the power steering rack with new banjo fittings that bolted right on. There is a power control relay built right into the unit so wiring was fairly simple.
Sounds pretty simple eh? Moves the weight to the right end, cleans up the engine bay and reduces install(swap) hassles, no more robbing of power or heavy cables/components - win, win, win. Just looking into alternative PS pumps and found one for about £70 which should do the same job as the Cup jobbie - rock on.
The 964 lump is pretty leaky so I might tear into it and make it a little "hotter" before installing it in my SC, then again I might just chuck it in and put up with the leaks

MJ & Christine you sound a little like me and babs - in fact the 964 is babs car Good luck with he project - I had another mess about last night and it looks like the wiring is quite different between the 2 looms so that will probably be a bit of a challenge. Have you read anything about the 964 rev counter needing a signal boost when using a 993 motor?
Gus looking good, when do you think it will be finished? Looks far too complicated for me, I'm only any use with spanners and stuff

Well after a year and a bit(cough) I've finally managed to find time to get the Vram lump into the 964.
All went pretty easy tbh and fits very nicely. I've still got to sort out one oil line, a fuel line adapter, some electrics and the vac cannister then I should be able to fill up with oil and fire her up

Way to keep after it! I wish I had your skills!

Not sure if it will help my 964 friends, but I documented my VRAM conversion for my 95 993 (see link in my sig). Obviously more of a challenge in converting a 964, but I'm sure some the issues are common. Hope you find some of this info useful.
Cheers,
Joe

Joe -
THNAKS - need to post some new pics now that I have the coil pac's in and all is up and running. I id a early dyno pull and have gained about 40+ HP, but the Vram has really increased the low end torques curve. Car pulls very nicely from low RPM. I could not figure out how to have the Varioram do the startup cycle test that the 993 does - so I added a vacuum gauge in the engine compartment to check and make sure I was holding vacuum -
