Default NEED HELP: C2 to RSA Engine Wiring Harness

Hey guys, just put in Forklift's (Jim) old RSA motor, mine was a bit "sick" here lately.

I have two pics I took this AM, one is of my original engine wiring harness and one of the wiring harness on the RSA motor. My question is, on the RSA engine wiring harness, there are two "extra" wires (red circle) - does anyone know what these are to and if I need to use them or will the engine operate OK without them?

I have to run and help a friend with some things at his house today so no time to chase the wires down, not to mention they run inside a tidy nice rubber "conduit" so they're difficult to trace out.

I'm thinking some of you may know if I need to connect these up and if so - to what??

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me.

ALSO, realized the cam on the right side doesn't have the stub to mount my power steering pulley, guess I'm going to be forced to go NO power steering this next weekend - DOH!!

Is there any tip to looping the hoses to where I don't have to chop my original pipes/hoses?? Again, thanks for any help you can offer...I need to get things connected up and this thing running by the end of the weekend.

No power steeriong isn't a problem. I like it! I managed to remove the pipes without cutting them up in small pieces.

Thomas, good to see you on here man, car looks awesome, I still have pictures of it from maybe 5 years ago when the wheels were black and such.

HOW did you loop up the lines for your rack?? Did you make lines or cut and splice them together...or just PLUG the rack??

As for the "extra" wires - anyone know what these go to or if I even have to use them?? I will not be able to start up this engine until Wed. and I will have to immediately take it over to get dyno'd and over on an alignment table/scales...because I leave Thursday evening for the track!

I won't have much time to "figure out" if I need those wires once my modified exhaust system gets here...that's why I can't start it!!

There's a plug on the fuse box on the left side that you will plug that into... look closely, as there is not much room to pull out the opposing plug...

I believe that is the red and brown for the suppressor capacitor, installed in 1991, part number 964 645 011 00, hides in that box and has MSRP of $218.30 and costs $147.67 from discount Porsche dealer.

I suspect it is to suppress radio noise from generator. But does anyone know for certain?

Thanks Jeff, yeah I'm still here and the car is getting better and better :-)

I tried to rebuild my rack twice with new seals but it was too damaged (rust on the piston) so it still leaked. Since the money was the same for an exchange part I went for a manual rack instead, so that's why I removed all pipes, pump etc. So there was no need for doing any "loops"

I know where the plug goes...guess I should clarify: I don't have the other end in my fuse box.

I'm wondering if everything will work/run OK without plugging it in? I can heat shrink the contacts and leave it hang in the fusebox??

AH Thomas, the truth comes out...you converted to a manual rack!

That was my answer to your question. The suppressor capacitor is what your connector connects to. See item 17 in illustration 901-05

stevepaa, thanks for the tip to the PET diagram. Now that I know what the wires go to, I'm wondering if I can run my car without that suppressor capacitor??

Guess I might want to get on the ball and order one.

I would imagine that this is one of those parts that no one ever has to buy...there are probably TONS of them in junyards, etc. that will never be used...yet I'll have to order one new for $150 or so - geez!!

ANYONE happen to have one laying around??

I wouldnt worry about it, if its just a suppresion capacitor.

My car had a small fire in that area, i think i junked mine out when i repaired it all.
