Thanks, good to know.
I noticed that Pelican has the 964 C4 mounts on special order. Any further thoughts on why we should order the 964 C4 mounts (instead of 993). There seems to be a difference (in part number and price) between the C2, C4 and 993 mounts. I would be surprised if they are identical except for part number and price.

OT:
With these stories of 'simpler' engine mounts going off in either time line direction from the 964, I'm increasingly imagining at the time a 911 design staff that was under a 'price be damned' philosophy.

Or, at least an attempted Product over Price philosophy.

And the engine gasket fiasco tells me they weren't always making conservative (evolutionary) decisions.

It's just a picture I'm getting.

What "engine gasket fiasco" are you talking about?

Meant pre-92 head gasket. (or 'gasketless' heads)

Looked like they were really out to cost-be-damned improve NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) via that engine mount.

I'm not so sure it was a cost savings issues as it was a historical issue. The previous generation engines did no have head gaskets either.

Pretty sure you're right about the 3.2's. (Not so sure, re the SC's & prior. They had head seals, as I recall?)
Anyway, larger bores + no seal turned out to be an achilles heal for a number of that first 3.6 design. (Who knew the 3.2 design was reliability's limit for a no-seal head?)
993 finished out the air cooled series w/ head seals.

See the little tab on the left side? The only difference between this one and the right one is the tab.

Well just replaced one of my mounts with the good second hand one I obtained cheaply. The mount I replaced was on the right hand side when looking from the back of the car. What a nightmare - those 19mm nuts on the bottom have 18 years of corrosion and wear and are stuck tight. Tried using a breaker bar on an extension and absolutely no joy - only way was to use my impact wrench and that took quite some time after having sprayed penetrating oil first. The left hand side is still stuck tight and have given up for the day now.

Was it worth it? - well after having removed the old mount it was visibly sagging about 1cm with slight sloshing sound so looks like it was past its best. Here's hoping I can get the other one off over the next few days - if anyone has any other tips to shift the reluctant nut I'm listening!

Get some Halfords 'shock and unlock' spray - much better than penetrating oil. My breaker bar was about 3 feet long. Good luck Bluey
