Default Winter Wheels and Tires

I survived last winter with the C2 with the Dunlop summer tires that came from the previous owner, it did pretty well even through a couple inches of snow, but I would really feel more comfortable with a set of rims with dedicated snow tires...
So I have been perusing Craigslist..Will either of these fit the 964:

Here is one listing (both listings show the same type of rim-swept five spoke)

4 Porsche Tires and Rims (2 front and 2 rear) - Winter Sport
Excellent condition
2 Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2 205/50R17 89H M+S tires and Porsche Rims
2 Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2 225/45R17 91H M+S tires and Porsche Rims

Another listing, looks like all of the rims are the same size:

FOUR LIKE-NEW, dealer-provided 17" PORSCHE Aluminum Alloy Winter Wheels; Swept Tusk Five Spoke WITH Color Insert (Part# 000-044-600-77). From recently sold Boxter-S. With Continental ContiWinter Contact, 225/45 R17-94V, Extra Load MS Radial Tubeless tires. Driven less than 5,000 miles.

Instead does anyone local to NYC have a set of stock rims with snow tires?

You need narrow tires for the winter. 16" wheels might be better than 17" if you are planning on driving in heavy snow. Although we don't get much snow in NYC and even if we do, the roads get cleaned instantaneously (at least in my 'hood).

Another thing you need to consider is that summer tires are made of a different compound than winter and A/S tires. Summer tires are very grippy and sticky when it's warm out, comparatively speaking, but once the temps fall below 40º they harden and don't provide as much traction. So I would advise against using summer tires in the winter even if it doesn't snow much.

Now, the two sets you're referring to seem that will fit. But you will need to provide offsets of the wheels and for some reason I'm not seeing attached photos today on Rennlist, but that could be just me...

Hope this helps.

I run 16s in the winter so i can go narrower as well. My favorite winter tire by far is the Blizzak LM-22. Great in the snow and on dry cold pavement.

Here is another picture of the Dunlop 17 winter wheels for sale...

2 Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2 205/50R17 89H M+S tires and Porsche Rims
2 Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2 225/45R17 91H M+S tires and Porsche Rims

Can anyone confirm that this set of wheels will fit a 964?

Apparently they are from a 2001 911.

Thanks!

I second Psiegel on the sizes. (I think those are the factory sizes for the 16's?)

I swear by Nokians for the snow. They're made in finland for finnish winters and are usually priced well. I run mine on the original d90's (and use the 17" cups for my summer tires).

I'm in NY and I run 205/50/17 and 255/40/17 Dunlop Winter Sport M2s on my C2 on aftermarket rims. These came from a guy who had them on a 996. They are Ok, but as pointed out, 16" would be better, and there are better snow tires available than the Dunlop M2. The Dunlop M3s are much better and I think replaced the M2. The issue you'll have is the depth of the snow and the chassis, especially if the car is lowered.

Thanks for all the replies...The guy is asking $600..If I can get him to knock off a hundred bucks I might go for it...Unless I can find a set of stock 16s with snows...
