How good is 964 Air Conditioning?
In looking at a possible job opportunity, and pending a move to a larger home with a 2-car garage, I might have to buy a 2nd car to commute to work in. One significant factor could be that, for political reasons, a Porsche is out of the question. And one requirement for this car would be that it must have good working AC and otherwise be a reliable daily-driver.
So my first question is about AC in these 964s. How good is it? I did perform a search, but I did not see any threads specifically dedicated to this question. If ones exist, please point me to the right direction.
Also, the climate control in general really should be better than it was in my 3.2. That system required an associates degree to handle correctly.

The working AC is one of the advantages of the 964 over previous 911s. If properly adjusted/serviced the AC can work wonderfully. In Chicago I would want a C4!

'93 and '94 cars came from the factory as R134a, so that's definitely something to consider when searching for a car. The cost to convert to R-134a will eat up some of the price premium between the early and late cars.
I live in Houston, the nation's leader in miserable summers and even more miserable traffic jams, and can usually stay cool enough in traffic in the summer with the temp on lowest setting, recirculate, and the fan on speed 3. Occasionally if I sit in traffic for a long time I crank the fan up to max (4). I don't have tint in the windows, and a dark interior, which obviously worsens the situation. (I have a stock '93, btw).

I had my 964 in Kuwait for many years where 50 Celsius was quite normal and the A/C coped pretty well, although on hot afternoons I'd take the Mitsubishi Galant instead of the Porsche...boring but freezing. A/c wasn't why I bought the Porsche either...

Three Wheelin'
Just had mine charged with R12, and right now it's as good as most Japanese cars I've had, but not as good as domestic or other European cars I've had.

Mine copes with the Atlanta heat and humidity even in traffic. I don't ever shiver, but I don't sweat either. It helped a lot when I cleaned the condensor. I am running R12, and have not had to add any for three years. Keeping fingers crossed for yet another summer.

Thanks for the responses. I just need the AC to keep the edge off, and the keep the wife happy when she's with me. If I get a 964, this will be the first car I've owned with working AC.
