Default To chip or not to chip?

Hey,
Just bought my first Porsche - a 1991 C2. I will not be racing (at least not on track) but I am seriously considering having it chipped - since I have had really good experiences having other cars I owned chipped.
So, my questions are:
- Which chip to pick?
- What should expect in terms of increase in power?
- Can I chip it without changing exhaust etc.?
Thx,
Lars,
Copenhagen, Denmark

I had mine chipped soon after I'd bought it. Then decided I couldn't really tell much difference. I got tired of always having to use super unleaded (although I still do anyway) and had it removed a few years later. Honestly couldn't tell the difference afterwards.

My advice would be not to bother.

At least when I had mine done, I already had a cat bypass but was advised to have the oxygen sensor removed (which I did). I still don't have an O2 sensor but will get it put back on at some point.

Put in a stock Steve Wong Chip in my 964 C4....seems like it pulls stronger now, but no way to know for sure... many threads on this topic (very controversial). Check out the Steve Wong website, he pitches a good sell.

Lars
What else has been done to the car regarding modifications or new parts. Depending on the miles they may be some other things you may want to do that will have a bigger impact.

I chipped my car and the Butt o seat meter is not impressed. Save your dough unless you are doing other mods like a LW flywheel or exhaust mods that can be exploited.

Either way, you won't be shaving any 1/2 seconds off 0-100kph times.

Listen to the majority of the posters and don't waste your money!
As this post exemplifies:

"I have a Steve Wong chip for sale if you want one..."

Most are hardly worth the cost of a blank 256K EPROM, i.e. about $3.00.

Actually, Garrett is selling as he installed a different chip.

I bought my car with certain mods already: LWF specifically. I had to go with a Steve Wong chip to compensate for the flywheel/AC problem. The car runs flawlessly now. I don't think chips are a waste of time, but poorly engineered solutions are a waste. My car came originally with an Authority setup, and it caused a great number of problems.

Steve is very helpful and knowledgeable.

Lars, velkommen ombord. Vi vil meget gerne se nogen billeder a din nye bil. Som du kan se paa min underskrift, jeg har installeret en Steve Wong chip paa grund af mit RS LWF, den giver ikke flere hestekraefter, men motoren lober bedere.
Steen

Yep... I have the Vitesse MAF installed so I have no need for it... but it certainly worked well - I have no complaints; just don't need it, that's all.

Another happy chip user:

https://rennlist.com/forums/911-forum/433339-steve-wong-3-2-chip-for-sale.html

So don't those chip suppliers have a "satisfaction guaranteed" in their
advertising or a full refund? If so, why the effort to sell them and
not ask for a refund?

"I had to go with a Steve Wong chip to compensate for the flywheel/AC problem."

Jason, a great & very knowledgeable Rennlist member, solved this problem
and has supplied Rennlist members a free chip. I wouldn't be supprised
if that chip has now been copied and sold by others as their chip solution
to the LWF idle undershoot. But again, that's the "performance" chip biz:

"installeret en Steve Wong chip paa grund af mit RS LWF"
