Below is a scan of a page from the factory Euro RS technical guide. The RS chip is designed for 98+88/2 octane=93. I live in California and have to mix 100 octane gas with the 91 octane pump gas or I can hear pinging and also hear it go away as the knock sensor works...just like the factory says it would with less than 93 octane fuel.

For what its worth, and in response to the original question - my answer if kept short would just be a 'NO'.

"Below is a scan of a page from the factory Euro RS technical guide."

Excellent! Posts and members like this contribute to Rennlist's superiority
over the others, i.e. the FACTS.

Thanks

Had to leave things stock for stock class in club racing. Never felt I was at a disadvantage to any of the supposedly faster 993's running in (former) C. Cervelli was the only guy who ran signficantly quicker, but that car was setup up 100%. My lowly RSA still had the cat on it........ It's all there in the '02-'04 club racing results.

I have the Steve Wong chip as well, and honestly...I could give or take it. I've noticed NO difference in my car's performance, but it does start within the first second or two of engaging the starter, where as before I installed the chip it seemingly took 3 or more seconds on a regular basis. And honestly, I couldn't even 100% say for sure if that is attributable to the chip or not, as I put it in at the same time I adjusted the valves.

I haven't put anyone on my ignore list since I joined a loooong time ago. Having said that, I understand why someone might want to ignore Lorenfb due to the rudeness and condescending tone of his posts, but I don't believe in censoring myself.

I was going to stay out of this, but.... I don't feel the need to put anyone on my ignore list (so far) on rennlist. If someone were truly being rude/abusive, I feel confident that the moderators would step in. Regarding Loren specifically, why ignore someone's input even if you disagree with it? However, I think some people take it personally when their assumptions are challenged. I'm not defending Loren specifically nor do I know him from Adam. But I'm a firm believer in a healthy balanced debate and I am confident enough to listen to opposing viewpoints and then make up my own mind. I don't mind someone challenging my assumptions on a technical topic (or a social or political topic for that matter). I think the collective knowledge of rennlist is enhanced by having others contribute alternative viewpoints provided that they are factual. Just my two cents.

And, by the way, I own a Steve Wong chip!

Healthy debate from all participants is encouraged while personal attacks, abusive behaviour, and name calling is not permitted.

The breadth of knowledge and experience of the people here is part of what makes RL such a valuable site.

I appreciate Loren's expertise and opinions. He busted my chops once, but other than that he is knowledgeable and stokes a healthy debate. This is not a great place to express an opinion if you get your feelings hurt easily.
