H&R + Bilstein changeover success!
I went to Hawk911's place on Saturday and together with Hawk and another 968 owner (Rick) we changed from my stock US springs & shocks (18 years old) to H&R green and Bilstein HDs. It only took 4 hours. Hawk's buddy Rick tore into the back and Hawk guided me on the fronts. I did go to a shop ahead of time to get the car up on a lift to break free the rear lower shock bolts so it was no problem for us when we got to them.
I big public THANK YOU to fellow rennlister Hawk911. This is his 3rd successful suspension change.
Huge difference. I actually have dampening now. Real shocks. You can tell the springs are stiffer than stock but all the impact harness is gone thanks to the new shocks. I still need to dial in a ride height adjustment, corner balance, and alignment and will go to Perfect Power for that.
Here are the replacement parts I ordered which I picked up off of another post. In particular the plastic bits for the front and the gasket is key. Below are the recommended nuts & bolts that should be replaced. This is all low dollar stuff, thank heavens.
Front Shock Mounting Hardware
900-067-310-09 (4) Cheese Head screw M12 x 1.25 x 90 (camber adjustment)
999-025-212-09 (4) Washer 12.5 x 24 x 3
999-084-623-09 (4) *Locking Nut M12 x 1.25
900-076-025-02 (8) *Front Shock Upper Mount Lock Nut
900-025-007-02 (8) Washer
964-341-511-80 (2) *Gasket
------------------------------------
Plastic pieces for ABS
928-612-409-00 (2) Abs Ground Wire Clip
928-612-531-00 (1) Abs Interference Shield Connector (L)
928-612-531-01 (1) Abs Interference Shield Connector (R)
999-591-931-40 (2) Clip
------------------------------------
Rear Shock Mounting Hardware
900-082-102-08 (2) Bolt Hex Head M14 x 1.5 x 100
999-025-149-02 (2) Washer
900-380-006-02 (6) *Locking Flange Nut M8 (For 91 or later cars)
999 084 622 02 (6) *Locking Flange Nut M8 (up to 1990)
999-025-125-09 (6) Washer 8.4 x 17 x 3.1
Cup I's should be on their way next week which should complete the transformation. Here is a photo after a quick wash today.
Perfect Power is not cheap but their alignment machine sure looks sophisticated (Microline 500). Is this somehow better than a typical Hunter setup?

Wow! Your car looks great, Ricardo! Lowering the cars really helps. I am so tired of my 4X4 front end.
Even with 52,000 miles and 19 years, the original suspension seems to be holding its own quite well, but I know its just a matter of time, so I have purchased some parts to freshen the car up. I hope to perform my suspension upgrade in a week or two.
Looks really, nice!

The D90's look very nice after you lowered the car. Are you sure that you want to change? There is a nice ratio of tire to metal and the black rubber fills the wheels wells quite well and everything looks proportionally correct.
Not to mention that the 17" will kill the ride and make your car slower in a straight line.
It will be great either way, I just like 16" wheels.

Doug,
Where were you before I spent my $1000 on used factory Cup I's?
If for some odd reason I don't like the Cup I's, I know I can turn them around quickly on this board.

No problem Ricardo. Glad to help. She looks great. (even with Ds on her).
Lynn- you sure the shocks are okay? Ricardo might have bet lunch before we took them off, but he found out quickly how bad the old shocks were. You could compress the old shocks with 2 fingers, and they didn't rebound at all! I'd be willing to bet your's are in the same condition. Remember, mileage isn't the only factor when it comes to suspension.

Lynn,
My car only has 50,000 miles, built in July 1990 and the shocks were shot. I've seen this twice now. When the budget is available you should make the change.
Doug,
You are a rare man who loves D90s. I think they look pretty good too. Mine are not near perfect, maybe a couple of them are, but there is some rash and small gash on the main face of one. Not terrible as they look good from 20 feet away. I think plenty of people here have d90s to sell, but even if I keep the Cup I's I don't want to sell my yet.

Thanks Ricardo!
The first time I saw D-90's, or a 964 for that matter, was in Munich in 1990. I was only 21 years old in College then. I stood on a corner and watched a guy in a Silver C4 with D-90s just hammer away from a traffic light and merge down into a tunnel. I never forgot that even though for years I never thought that I would have a Porsche.
The D-90's fit the Design and the intent of the 964 perfectly. Very functional, not much bling.

Nice efficency improvement! Four hours is short work. I wish I could have joined in but my schedule is a killer right now - worked all weekend. How was removing the top strut nut? Apparently not as bad as mine. What alignment specs will you go with?
The Cup I's are perfect for your car imo. I've toyed with the idea of getting Ruf wheels but I like the Cup I's so much I probably won't. What kind of tires are you getting?

Ricardo,
Where did you end up with the perch settings on the Bilstein for front and rear? The ride height looks quite aggressive and all business
I am about to explore my suspension later this Spring / Summer and would also like to give the H&R setup a try., but have no intentions to go as low as yours.

At midway on the perches, how close is that to RS+10 to +15? It looks pretty close to that already. I am also curious on how high one can get using H&R green with Bilstein HD set at highest perches?
