Default Monday- What have you learned?

Similar to the Friday thread, what did you learn over the weekend? anything good?

I haven't done any P-car work this week, but I did paint the bedroom while my wife was flying to Arizona. My daughter was asleep on the bed most of the time.

I started up the car on Firday afternoon after 5 months of winter sleep. Everything was perfect except that the ABS warning went of all the time. I thought I'd done something wrong when I installed the ABS-kill switch (as on the CUP cars) but I couldn't understand how so I started with the ABS-sensors instead because I disconected them when I put on some heat covers (also from the Cup-cars)....and guess what - I had put the connector for the left rear wheel in the wrong hole in the white socket! So it was a simple fix this time and now the car works as it should again! Learning - check, and double check!

Talking

A mis-adjusted throttle cable, not fully clicking the Idle microswitch while off-throttle, WILL cause rpm-hunting and stop light stalls.
(And that this will have gone undetected by every shop you've taken it to over the last 1-1/2 years... )

And that the throttle cable adjustment is under the car, just in front of the tranny.

And that these cars, when adjusted correctly, are soooooo sweet to drive.

That putting safety wire on the clips for your harness is a great deal easier if you remove the seats.

That's "snottoletti"... (ref "schnell", in the factory manuals.)

I learned that contorting myself while working under my tractor that broke down in muck along a swamp on my property it hurts like hell the next day after using muscles that have been sleeping all winter
Its not easy getting black muck off you skin!
I also learned the Sirius radio antennas suck as I just had to order my 4th in just over a year

That new 2" Scroth harnesses are so much better with HANS than the old 3" version.

I learned that sometimes hole saws come a little ****-eyed, and trying to use a crooked one on tubing does not work very well. Also figured out that when said hole saw is on a notcher, you can slowly spin it and using a sharpie/marker figure out the "high side" and then stop and take a heavy-ish hammer and knock it back straight.

Oh yeah, and forgetting to turn the gas on with a MIG produces really crappy results.

Totally un-Porsche related:

Likewise I learned that climbing up and down a ladder to put new siding on dormers results in Monday morning leg pain. Or maybe it was contorting myself underneath the kitchen sink when re-plumbing it. Either way, Ouch. I also learned that if you set up a table saw and a power miter box saw in the front yard, wear a tool belt, and brandish a 30 foot extension ladder, people you don't know will stop in your driveway and ask if you can come give them a quote on siding work. People you do know will stop by to ask how you learned to do this. To which I respond, "Learned? I never learned. I am just sort of winging it. When I am done I will have learned how to do it."

On a related note, Hardi Board, the fiber cement "hardboard" stuff is really amazing. If I could afford to put it on my whole house I would.
