Default 964 IMSA Porsche 1991-1994

I am looking for any information on the winning 964 Porsche in the IMSA Series. These races were in the states. I am looking for the horsepower and torque ratings of the race cars.

I believe they were the X33 and the X88 models, 3.3 and 3.6 litre. It would be great if some one has a dyno sheet showing the data.

I have seen horsepower ratings all the board anywhere from 285 to over 400.

Also if you have photos of the cars racing in the Supercar series 1991-1994, please send them......Thanks, Jim

I'd love to see some pics as well. I have a US Carrrera Cup that ran IMSA races in same time frame. Anybody have access to results from those years.

X33 was the power package available for the 3.3L engines in 91-92. It upped the hp to 355. X88 was the 3.6t power package and up power to 385. There was also the "Turbo S2" option available only in the US for the 92 cars upped power to 383hp. This was a modification package done at Andial and was the homologation basis for the IMSA cars. I've seen one of the Brumos IMSA cars, and there were definitely a lot of non factory parts on the car. The IMSA cars were more than 383hp, but how much is a bit of a guess.

If you have copies of Porsche Sport '93 and '94 ... the results on the IMSA supercar championship races are in the back. Also according to page 183 in the 1994 Porsche SPort '94 book the 911 turbo 3.6 GT america ... with a picture of the IMSA Brumos #59 turbo 964 ..... The engine had 530hp. There are many incredible pictures of the cars in these books.

If anyone has a chance to buy these books ... they are absolutley incredible and hard to come by these days.

The first picture there is from the 1994 season where they used modified bodywork on both the Turbos and the RSRs. These were bolt on flares, the precursor to the 993RSR/GT2 flares. They also had special trailing arm spring plates that had 2 different camber positions to select from and could be moved without altering toe.

Now i am confused???

I was told the purpose for the 20 Andial built S2's was for homologation of the 3.3l engine with the X33 package which was not offered in the US. I recall their being a lack of HP issues in these cars and don't recall them having more than 383 hp for the race series.

I was also told that there are 50 3.6L X88 engines unaccounted for and more than likely used for the 94 race season. If so these engines have been tested and show to only have the specified 385 hp. I had heard they had found ways to increase hp by using the air pump to spool up the turbo earlier and keep boost on all the time at a considerable loss of fuel economy but I had never seen numbers of 530 hp and if so this makes it more HP than the 964 LM turbo used at LeMans. This was a one off twin turbo using 962 electronics and it only produced 480 hp. If using CIS could they reliably produce 530HP out of what was supposed to be a stock engine that was rated at 385hp?

I also see that they have the 3.8L RSR rated at 340 Hp when the factory press release paperwork I have rates it at 325HP. It indicates the use of aluminum hood and fenders for reduced weight and individual throttle bodies but nothing showing additional HP.

According to Paul Frere the 3.3l race turbo was fitted with camshafts from the 3.6 N/A engine polished ports and intake pipes and increased boost from .8 to .9 bar raising the max power to 381hp at 6000 rpms At the tim he considered it an extremely fast car doing 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds 0-99.5mph in 9.2 seconds and 0-124mph in 14.2 seconds with a top speed of 180mph (12.5mph) faster than a standard 3.3l. He also states the 3.6 L IMSA turbo engine was rated around 380hp.

Anyone know where to watch these complete races? Searching youtube I am only finding the other class coverage from the era, just a couple of clips of brumos cars.

IMSA web site should sell them! How about creating a new streaming station that has all race archives available on demand?
