Default C2 Rev counter issues

hi guys, my first post so here goes. My 1990 964 C2 has a problem where the Rev counter does not move and then will erratically bounce and jump for a few seconds then stop completely. I could use the car and it won't move at all, other times it will occasionally move on a run?

i removed it from the dashboard and checked the physical movement of the indication and checked for any fouling on the glass and all OK, all the indicator lamps work and illumination lamps too.

Any ideas?

I had intermittent issues on my speedometer that turned out to be due to poor solder joints in the gauge. Assuming your tachometer signal is good, then that’s a possibility.

Thanks John, could be a quick approach to eliminate the issue.
