a question about RS glass
I have an RS Clone in the works. I want to switch the rear glass out and not have the stock third brake light. If I buy new glass, which part number should I use?
Thanks fellas

For whatever reason, the 993 has had a lot of problems with the rear glass shattering. And for the regular (non-rs) glass there are different versions depending on the model year. The outer and inner frames are also model year dependent. So make sure you find someone that has actually installed it into a 964 before ordering. The price for the 964RS and 993RS glass is exactly the same ($81.63USD -- 09/2007 PCNA price list) so I don't know if there would be any advantages to going with the 993 glass?

The 993 glass is bonded in, the 964 glass is in a lip rubber.
The 993 allso has different interior trims around the screen, and a different loom for the heated rear.

The rear glass that has no third brake light or wiper hole is part # 964-545-107-04. They said this was also listed as the RS not sure if that is correct.
I am saving up to purchase one. They are close to a grand and have to be shipped in from the factory, they show 14 in stock. None in the USA in stock. Good thing is that Porsche does not charge shipping. Installation is another $250.00 or so. I am going to have the dealer do it dispite the high cost because if they break it (which is likely) they have to fix it. I have heard that it is easy to break the glass putting it in. If it leaks they fix it ! You get the idea.
993 or earlier Carrera glass will not fit the 964 Chassis. Must be for 89-94 964 or 965.
I was unable to source this non high mount glass any where but the dealer. If you find it let me know !

How long ago did you check the pricing for the rear glass? Pricing for all the rear glass was reduced dramatically in the latest price list (i just checked this afternoon). I don't have direct electronic access to Porsche Parts Direct or the dealer system so I can't tell if the latest pricing is a mistake (like a comma in the wrong place).

The 964 RS came in three (four if you include cup cars) specification. The RS Touring (M002) version uses standard street glass. The others use thin glass.

mjshira,
I'm looking toward something similar, but am considering Shields polycarbonate. Could someone provide a brief comparison of the RS glass vs. Shields? Shields comes in varying thickness. Would there be increased cabin noise with the Shields? Should I want to flush mount the Shields, is there a kit from Porsche that would allow?
