Default stainless-steel braided brake lines question

I am having some Weltmeister stainless-steel braided brake lines installed and the mechanic was concerned that the rear lines are too long. Is this common? Anyone run into this? Is there another brand that I should have purchased?

Thanks in advance.

I would stick with OEM lines, not stainless lines. In fact, all Porsche race cars use the same street oem rubber lines.

From some of the brake upgrade articles I've gotten the impression the stainless lines expand less under pressure than the oem rubber lines. I've also gotten the impression the oem lines are best for detecting possible problems with the lines, such as a swelled area getting ready to fail.

Are there other reasons to go with one or the other?

Geoffrey & Heirsh,
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I knew I should have asked the group before buying...

Not me bro. I just regurgitated some things I'd read. I'm just asking questions like the rest of us.

Braided stainless brake lines are sometimes longer because they tend to be much stiffer than the stock rubber lines. Should not be a problem.

Brake lines can fail in ways other than expansion. They can also cave-in. You will not be able to see or feel cave-in on an SS brake line.

When I put the SS lines in they too seemed a tad long, The will fit fine. the ends just seem to have longer shanks.

I like the non-weltmeister DOT approved SS lines you can get from Pelican - they fit great and are not too long. I just installed a set today, replacing 13 year old original rubber lines on my race car that's coming together. The original lines seemed fine with no swelling or cracks which I thought suprising since the rest of the car's fittings were all corroded and required replacement. I am sure these SS lines will outlive my car...

So many of you guys mention brake line failures like they happen on a frequent basis - I personally (on 5 964's and one 65 911), and none of my racing buddies have ever had a problem with a failed or potentially failing line. Have you guys all found brake lines that are swollen, or caved in, or heard about it?

I posted a picture last year showing swelling at the fitting when I replaced my OE brake lines......with stainless ones.

Only on my daily drive the Audi 80, both front lines ballooned, I was informed that they have a life of about 10 years or so, they looked horrific when I was shown, but under normal use and viewing I hadn't seen them do this, only with someone else on the brake pedal was it apparent.

I have a set of SS brake lines for sale. I was going to put them on my car this winter, but turns out PO already took care of it for me. $50 shipped to the US. PM/email me for details. Thanks!
