Default 300 hp 964

What does it take to get a 964 to (or near) 300 hp without supercharging or turbocharging? I'm referring to the 3.6 not the 3.8 RS.

How close to 300 hp can you get without major internal modifications?

Thanks guys,
Marc

Well, I know Ninemeister offers a Motec kit that claims 325hp

http://www.ninemeister.com/site/47.html

No internal modifications that I know of, I think its just a different engine management system.

Without internal modifications, I think Motec would be the obvious route. I believe that is supposed to get you somewhere in that area.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I'd be happy to get 275hp or so. Any thoughts on the modifications that will get me there?

Mine is 300 hp at the flywheel (on an engine dyno). It got there with MoTeC. Race class rules require stock intake manifold and throttle body which limits the hp to about 300 (+/- 5). You can get more hp with changes that I'm not allowed to make.

I got to 275ish by simply removing the cat and secondary muffler. The dyno showed 245 at the wheels and with 12% loss that's 275ish.

Re-Mapping your Porsche live on the dyno is the only guaranteed way to ensure your engine management system delivers the optimum engine control through fuel, mixture, advance and iginition timing. Power and torque gains are real, significant and tangible.

The total optimisation of the engine managment system eradicates flat spots, hestiation and poor throttle response, unleashing the power locked in your engine by the conservative factory settings. Your remapped engine will deliver 100 percent of its true performance potential. The first thing we say to owners on completion of a dyno Re-Map session is .. welcome to real Porsche ownership!.

The 9mRacing Re-Map delivers ultimate performance and efficiency from the heart of your Porsche engine.

Typical Power Gains
All models are assumed to be fitted with a minimum of a K&N performance panel filter or similiar. Ninemeister can supply and fit a performance filter at the time of ReMap by arrangement.

964 3.6L Stock 250bhp, Stock Exhaust (no cup/cat); Up To 275-285bhp.
964 3.6L Stock 250bhp, Cat / Cup fitted; Up to 295bhp.
993 3.6L Non Vario Stock 272bhp Stock Exhust; Up to 290-295bhp.
993 3.6L Non Vario, Sports Silencers; Up To 300bhp.
993 3.6L VarioRam, Stock Exhaust 282bhp; Up to 303bhp.
993 3.6L VarioRam, Sports Silencers 282bhp; Up to 310bhp.

9mReMap from £500. excl

The power gains illustrated are all achieved and proven many times with customer cars. All power gains are recorded on the same dynomometer we develop our 450bhp race engine on and are always demonstrated relative to your before and after runs. Power results are affected by atmospheric conditions at the time. All cars should be supplied filled with Shell Optimax petrol for remapping. Power figures are for illustrative purposes only, each individual car will return different results dependent on its own physical condition.

i don't doubt the motec set-up would make the engine more responsive but i don't see how it could increase the max power output to 325 hp. maybe 300 FWHP but you can get that with a strong running chipped motronic....or about 250 RWHP on a dynojet 248 something. the only thing you can do is advance the timing and optimize the fuel...i think

Can you? I've seen plenty of people (chip manufacturers) claim this, but has anybody actually had before / after plots with a chip fitted and seen 300HP?

Personally, I'm willing to believe Motec produces decent power gains. I looked into it several years ago, but couldn't find anyone who had done JUST motec that could confirm the gain (most people do it at the same time as something else). Tom's comments now are interesting since that's the first time I've heard of someone who has just changed to Motec and seen the gain.

I'm not convinced that sticking a new chip in is going to gain me 50hp. I believe you might gain some (10hp maybe?) because I have no doubt that our ignition maps are a compromise. But I think I'd notice the fact that I had to use super unleaded all the time more than I noticed the power gain.

Wow. Impressive. I did not expect so many responses so fast! Thank you all very much. And thank you all for the details. I had actually expected to hear that such power gain was impossible without major engine components.

We love an excuse to argue!

Any threads on power gains / chips / motec / AFM etc. etc. always seem to encourage lots of opinions.
