OMG those powder coated parts look awesome. Did you send the parts out or was it done locally? I'm currently having my engine rebuilt and maybe while it's out I could send my parts out. How much was the job? Like to suggest a place?

I hear ya, The car is filthy right now! I have to go into the engine compartment and degunk it yet. Its as dirty in there as the engine was when I took it out. Everything is covered.

It was about $400cdn for the black stuff, the exhaust was $350 cdn . The exhaust was more expensive because it is special high heat stuff.
(.90 cdn = ~1.0 usd)
I gave them the second batch of parts (to be done in red) on friday. Hopefully they will be back in 2 weeks.

ok i took a few bad pics today - will post them later when i find the usb cable. made a little progress so far - got the cams timed, valve clearances set, p/s pump on, valve covers on, chain housings all buttoned up.
Now I'm just waiting on the lawn guy's boss to show up so I can toss them a few bucks to help me get it off the stand and onto the jack.
Then it's just ignition, tins, and all the stuff that goes on the top of the motor. A little tranny stab, and I'll be jacking this bad boy back into the car. Wish me luck - no whammies!

I had to replace two pieces of tin. They were beyond saving. (Rust holes through the metal in alot of places). If the tin only has surface rust you can get it bead blasted and powder coated.
I bought used tin. The new stuff was expensive!

What up Carter??? Well, I got this bad boy ready to put in the car. Of course my back and elbows are so whacked I won't be able to turn the steering wheel. Going to eat some dinner and then I'm thinking maybe 2 hours to fire it up. Gotta get on the ball though, fireworks start at 9:30.

Still haven't found my USB cable to put up the pics - but I've got good news and bad news.
Good news is engine runs great and plenty of power.
Bad news is I still have a knock, and I must have messed something up putting it together this time because it looks like I may have a new leak. I dunno, could be the power steering fluid I spilled all over the place, we'll see.
Good news is it isn't a rod knock so I can drive it without worrying about blowing it up.
Bad news is it might be an intermediate shaft or gear, or a bad wrist pin/bushing. Should have sent the wrist pins and rods to get mic'd - even though the bushings are brand new, machinists aren't infallible.
Only other thing I can think of, and I HOPE this is it, is maybe a bad bearing on the fan or alternator. We'll see.
