Default Speeding

Local news did a story about speeding, I've often wondered what would happen to be caught going over 100mph or so in my 90C2. Well here in Nebraska the maximun ticket is $200.00 for going 20mph+ over the speed limit. The few times I've had it in the 140mph range I just told myself if I get caught I'm going straight to jail :It's kinda nice to know that as long as you don't try and outrun the police and just pull over you'll just have a $200.00 ticket plus court costs. If caught in constuction zone the fine is double. I'm sure if caught the police will try and give you a reckless driving ticket also but I've heard of people getting out of those. Just imagine arguing with the judge about reckless driving in a 911 going over say 130mph, whenever I approach speeds like that you better be paying attention to everything. Does everyone know what your fines would be in your area? Brian

I think the only place where one can safely drive a 911 to its full potential is in the controlled conditions of a track.

Sorry, but to do those kinds of speeds on a public highway is just reckless.

In Missouri I have always heard that if you get caught going double the speed limit that your car is impounded, you lose your license, and spend time in jail or a hefty fine. But I now wonder what it really is. I may check that out. Sure the track is the safest envirement for high speed driving, but really there are some places were it would be not a whole lot different than say the autobahn. The U.S. is a big country with many very empty, straight and flat highways. I have always thought it would make since to have something like the autobahn across the country.

If your going that fast your going to at least earn yourself a free night at the local police station, plus the ticket, court fees and insurance increase. Just make sure your not doing those speeds in traffic. Things happen real fast at those speeds. Keep it safe and best wishes - Jay

In Canada it is a Federal offence to double the speed limit, you got to jail. My buddy was going 170 km/h in a 100km/h zone, his licence was suspended for 6 months plus a $400 fine.

Interesting this. Since some time we have a very high fines.
Driving 40km/h over the limit or 20km/h over the limit in school area's would mean:
Court fine: 550 to 2750 euro
Loss of licence (8 days to 5 years)
Only fined once with an average of 60.000 km (37.500 miles) per year behind the wheel for 18 years now, call me very lucky

A long time ago, there were places in remote states like Wyoming where there was no speed limit. I traveled on some of them. They were not autobahn quality. On rare occasions there are state sanctioned high speed runs in Nevada.

Just go to the track : )

I'm sure in Nebraska there are areas where you could really fly. One place I've had the car up in the 150 mph range is aligator alley in Florida. There are no stops for miles and great animal control. Otherwise, too dangerous!

Marc, Do you really think 100mph is reckless? In a 964?

Seriously I see soccer mums in vans (people carriers) full of kiddies at 65/70mph swerving all over the road without using indicators, on the cell phone etc, and I think of this as 'reckless' driving -- where no due care or attention is being paid to the task at hand. I think in a capable car (such as my C4) 100mph in an environment free of traffic or hazzards in the correct conditions is not at all reckless by comparison.

The law is ambigous because it has to apply to everyone. Breaking it in some circumstances may be illegal but not necessarily reckless IMO.

Seriously, its often almost impossible NOT to do 100mph in these cars on the freeway.

I have reached 140+ in my car shortly after I got it. It was fun for the few seconds I was there but then I suddenly realized what the penalties would be if I were caught. This was done with no other motorists in sight. (Or I wouldn't have done it.) While driving now, if there are no other drivers in sight, I routinely reach 100MPH while driving the long highways... But that's about it. I agree with Howard, I see soccer moms and other types yaking away on their cell phones, putting on make-up, guys shaving, etc. that are far more reckless than me going over the speed limit. I think everyone who has had their Porsche for any time has pushed the speed limit and broken the law. I hope that they have not done it in a reckless manner. (Though some would argue that driving in excess is in itself a reckless act... I'm sure the Police would see it that way!)

Howard... Marc pointed out that 140 was reckless.. Not 100... I would assume that part of Marc's job is to sort of discourage posts like these for the sake of the site and John D. I know that I have posted threads before dealing with speeding. I stopped because I don't want to encourage anyone else or leave the impression with anyone that Rennlist.com condones excessive speeding.

Save on a track? Since when?

I reckon that under good conditions going flat out on a German Autobahn is much safer. I've had pleanty of "moments" on the track. I never had any problem with 160 mph + on the Autobahn.
