Congrats! Personally I don’t think you overpaid at all for all the reasons you have already mentioned, the primary one being that it’s what you wanted. The forums don’t always hear about the private sales of these cars and what is being paid for them but suffice to say that many C2’s do change hands at much higher values than what you see in the auctions sites.
Enjoy in good health and post up some pictures when you receive it.
Agree with this. When it comes to cars such as air cooled, there is no such thing as overpaying in my mind if it is what is special to you. I searched for a long time for a color combo I wanted in a C2 that was in the condition I was looking for. Most would definitely consider what I paid as "overpaying". Do I worry about "overpaying"?...No. Do I enjoy the car to the max every time I drive it and look at it?...Hell yes!
Great color combo! I agree with you. The C2's are rare to find , then in good condition even more so. In a few years finding a sub 60K miles C2 will be very difficult IMO

Slate Gray/cashmere ‘92 C4 on BaT. Has lots of interior options including the rootwood, exclusive console, sport seats, and leather bits. No performance or exterior options really. No LSD or Cup 1’s. Sloan had this for sale last year think he was asking $140k. This is actually very close to the VIN of my car. Serial number 20594 mine is 20592 with same production month.
Would love any input/thoughts. 92k miles on it, 60k miles were put on it after the unexplained salvage title and the engine was refreshed 1400 miles ago.

I was impressed with this car given the special options, color, and mileage so I was surprised it sold at $120K. While I am never a fan of tan interiors though that is just my personal taste.

Nice interior but wrong exterior or visa versa. I would have expected more if it had a black or other color interior the cashmere and all the rootwood are great but always polarizing especially with grey exterior which IMO hurt its price. Not bad IMO considering. $126k all in is not bad for that combo.
Personally speaking, I think the price is maybe high? Miles are low but it's still 35 years old and if I'm understanding the description properly, the motor hasn't been rebuilt.
Outside of that, it's probably what a clean c2 with nice mods goes for these days.
Hard to say. My assumptions are something happened to the back end. The gap between the top of the deck lid and the tub is way too tight yet the bottom lines up perfectly right side gap appears off as well. I see evidence of the tab on the right rear quarter so Possibly it was replaced. The welds at the bottom are quite clean and that is usually but not always the case. I am also seeing what might be gap issues at the frunk right side but pics are not high enough res. They talk about an engine rebuild with new cams but no mention of what was done to the heads and gaskets since this is an early ringless engine. Any valve work or other needed issues addressed? I would need more info on what was actually done. How was the car tuned after the cams? The car is a full respray yet some seals are not new and there are bits and pieces missing I would expect replaced for that price. The moton is a nice track suspension but probably too harsh for most on the streets. You would need to figure out what springs are used and how will it feel when driving? Weltmeister strut brace is nothing special and I don't care for how they cut the tub for the reservoirs. they didn't pay up for the disconnects so they drilled a large hole and covered it with rubber. Damage to the lower dash right side is a ?? to why? Windshield seal is sucking in but that is from the bad seals coming from the factory.
Love the rothsport shifter IMO one of the best SS kits made and a good upgrade. The rest is personal preference. I believe those are ADS power plates. A bit old school but a great speaker but i only use my stereo for navigation the song comes from behind. Assuming no tub issues I think at a fair price and some personalized changes it could be nice but this is premium money for a less than perfect example that shows no underside and close up photos.
I would have to see the car in person to know more.

Incredibly helpful. Thank you. I feel there are too many question marks on this car. It's why I shied away the first time, and you've solidified my 'hunch'.
Strong money for a car with what I suspect has a fair amount of paintwork. Panels measuring 9,10, 11, 12 & 13Mils? Original??? Still a nice example but I hope the buyer isn't expecting original paint. There are a number of little things that I find suspect as well but overall I hope the buyer is happy. That is all that matters I guess.
Cobalt, do you know the 12K mile Black Targa on BAT from NY/NJ?
Sorry I don't know the car. I could use some underside photos, meter readings and engine cover removed. On the surface it looks pretty tasty. I see no reason to consider the mileage TMU based one wear but I gave it just a quick glance. My only concern is it being an early ringless engine but by now it is either an issue or not. I would look further into this if I were in the market. I would say the PCA Mart ad at $170k is optimistic but all it takes is two interested parties.
