I don't think they will be able to find another 450-500 at least in the US that meet their criteria at least not without cutting up RSA's and even RS's. I have heard one RS has already been chopped up but can't confirm. I do see that some very desirable examples have been chopped. it isn't just singer but many are being chopped up for projects of all types. I would guess that there are as many being sacrificed for other builds as are SIngers. Don't forget how many were lost years before Singer was a thing.

^^^ Excellent point about them being the basis of other customs. Even some of ours here in this thread are customs in there own way.

very true. there are a lot of other 'smaller' backdate shops out there. if we were to double the singer numbers to account for all the other shops, we're now talking significant numbers lost.

What is their criteria other than the chassis not having any past structural damage?

I think also the engine has to turn over freely with the main case in good enough condition, and the interior is complete or mostly complete.

I've become less of a fan over time of Singer's backdating, and backdating in general. Personally I would love to replicate the Singer engine build (which I think is totally possible, although not sure if would pass CA visual inspection) and otherwise leave the 964 alone.

The biggest issue is the accident free tub. Very few that come up for sale actually meet that criteria and many have some structural damage if even minor to the lower front of the tub. I suspect that if you can find a donor and have it properly repaired yourself by a reputable shop they might have to take that approach in the near future.

The BRG C2 sold for $150k. Still think there was still some uncertainty about this car and it reflected in the result.

Yep, solid price and makes sense.

Someone in the comments said "This will be a $500k car in 5 years, maybe less". Really? That would be a bit nuts.

that was the comment that cracked me up!!

all the comments focused around it being a steal and a cheap purchase. i would agree with that if everything could have been substantiated. i still think there are some questions about that car, but if someone can prove that it truly is an original BRG car and is actually 10k miles, $150k may be cheap down the road. of course, we could all be sitting on paperweights in 10 years too. i really have no clue how this whole collector car market is going to shake out.

i agree that if everything was documented and it was a euro/US car originally, it would have definitely brought more than the $150k. the baltic car a bit ago was not this special and it brought $150k, but at a high point in the market [possibly].

The BRG car would have brought more if it was a US Car for multiple reasons including ability to easily register in Cali, and a Carfax history that would help trace its history better.

I don’t doubt the mileage on the car based upon the overall condition of the undercarriage.

About 6 years ago my mechanic told me to hold onto my 964 because it will be a 100k car soon. It seemed unthinkable at the time. It's a 100k car now.

hey - I wouldn’t complain! But after such an exponential increase, we’ve seen at least a stall. Expecting 5x or 10x more just seems overly hopeful. When prices jump, I would expect people starting to sell off to take advantage of their newly found wealth. Been seeing a lot of people sell just because they no longer want to insure and drive a car with that value.

When I was looking for a 964 2 years ago there were literally no cars for sale. Now there is a constant stream of 964’s on BaT. Not sure how long it will last but for now it seems to be the new norm while prices hold up.

It was a fair buy at the price but far from a car that IMO will never be worth much more than it sold for.
